Most importantly, is it a good idea? I''ve been looking at diamonds at my local jeweler but I have yet to find the one that "wows" me.

Can you get a good diamond online? Other than the certificate, how else can determine if it''s a good diamond? For instance, I found this one:
Oval Diamond

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

yes you can get a good diamond online. That's exactly what I did and so many others on pricescope. I found that I was able to get exactly what I wanted and more bang for my buck with a trusted online vendor. Personally I went with Whiteflash. They custom made my engagement setting, found me a great diamond and made me a great eternity band.
Go with a trusted vendor and you will be fine!

What places do you recommend?

Did you get a chance to look at the link in my original post? She wants an oval diamond (one that is close to circular, yet still oval). My budget for the diamond is $5500 max and I am looking for the best I can get. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My personal recommendation is whiteflash...but there are so many places..

*Brian Gavin diamonds (HIGHLY recommended on PS)

*GOG (another place that's highly recommended)

*James Allen

*High Performance diamonds: ppl love working with Wink

there are so many...but if you look under RESOURCES on the top of the pricescope page...there is a link to vendors. You can ask about any vendor on here...ppl will chime in with their personal experiences.

BTW I did see the link you posted but I didn't respond because I know nothing about ovals. I'm sure one of the great ppl on PS will give you their opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions. I''m looking at them right now ...

Ovals and other fancy shapes need to be looked at. You want to find a vendor who is good at assessing fancies. I think Mark T has helped PSers find beautiful cushions and ovals, amoung other shapes.

Everyone has given excellent advice. For fancy cuts like an oval, I''d go with a trusted vendor who also provides ASET and IS pictures. The ASET in particular will help us assess the quality of the oval diamond. I know that www.goodoldgold.com and www.whiteflash.com and www.briangavindiamonds.com all provide all that information.

Hi,

I would contact Whiteflash since they provide all the necessary info to determine if a stone is of good quality. I''ve worked with them three times and have had great luck.

The only time I shop at local jewelry shops is for fun fashion jewelry (sometimes diamonds, sometimes colored stones).
