buying a diamond on the internet

Has anyone purchased a diamond at www.diamond.com? Are they a reputable seller? Generally speaking, is it safe to buy over the internet?

I know nothing about the company you mentioned. However I have seen alot of fine deals through the internet. Some tips, I would buy it with a credit card, you'll have the credit card company backing you. Find out what their return and inspection policy is. If you can get it appraised by an independant appraiser before you buy it. There are quite a few appraisers out there that would act as mediators between the buyer and seller.

I dont know anything about diamond.com but as long as you stick with vendors that you can talk to multiple customers of on a board like this one it is very safe.

If your uncomfortable you can have the diamond sent to an independant appraiser before you pay for it.
If a vendor wont allow this then its time to find another vendor.

How would I go about getting the diamond appraised independantly? How much does this usually cost?

Prices vary by location and tests performed.
I have heard $65 to $120 an hour with an hour or 2 needed depending on what you need.
Others offer packages based on ct size.
So cost could be anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars.

There are also a couple different ways of doing it.
Having the diamond sent to one localy and being there during the appraisal or having it done remotely and getting a report back.
