Greetings all, first post here so go easy on me.

I have been reading up on diamonds as I will soon be in the market for my GF.

I have been mostly using Blue Nile but then I was reading a lot of posts that say people prefer WhiteFlash because of their attention to the actual stones and their ability to comment on how noticeable an inclusion might be on a si1 (I''d like to go si1 since they tend to be much less expensive than vs2).

The problem is that I don''t like any of the settings that WF has listed. Not that they are bad mind you but the fact is that I *love* this pair from Blue Nile (see attached).

So I had just assumed that I would order that pair from Blue Nile and select one of their loose diamonds to go in it and be all set. But since it seems like WF is much favored in terms of personal touch and advice/communication on stones I am hesitant.

So that leads me to the crux of my question which is, if you like a setting from one place but want to obtain the stone from another source what do you do? I mean, would you order both and then take them to a local jeweler to have them assembled? Seems like the local jeweler would be really happy with you for buying nothing from them :)

Again, I''m just getting started in the wedding ring game so I appreciate in advance any tips, tricks, advice and info you all can provide!

Thanks!

If you look on the Show Me the Ring forum, there are some absolutely INCREDIBLE custom rings that Whiteflash has made for Pricescopers. They have a very loyal following for good reason.

If it were me, I''d get the stone from WF and have them create a custom set like the Blue Nile set that you like (pretty set, BTW!). You could also ask if WF would be willing to set the stone in the BN setting for you, but I don''t know what kind of implications that would have on the warranty for the BN setting.

I don''t think Blue Nile will sell their settings without a stone. Whiteflash could make something similiar if you are open to custom. that said, many of the vendors here work together so they are willing to work with you if you purchase the diamond from one place and the setting from anther.

You describe exactly what I did. Since most vendors can cross-ship a diamond, I picked a setting from WF that I liked (actually, had it custom made), and had the stone -- which I could only find at BN -- sent to them. WF took pictures, IdealScope image, etc., and I had the pleasure to talk directly with the cutter at WF (Brian) for an expert opinion regarding the diamond. That was very important for me.

Good luck with your purchase.
