1.01 ct, G VS2, Triple EX, GIA cert, No culet, no flour ... one small crystal on top, two pinpoints underneath ... can get for $5500 with pricescope discount. seems like one of the best options I''ve found for under $6,000 - any thoughts?

one question regarding GIA report - report says ''additional comments - additional pinpoints are not shown.'' - and I to understand that these would be minuscule enough that they would not affect the beauty of the stone?

can you post the report or the report number?

Ya, the additional comments is usually un-noticeable.

here''s the actual report

can you make a recommendation for a similar stone? I''m looking for a stone in the $4500-$5500 range ... but I have high hopes for a great stone.

I''m hoping for something in the neighborhood of 1 ct, G, and preferably VS2 ... I''ve searched pricescope, and have some options - but i''m struggling with the quality of the cut ...

How important is symmetry, polish, and florescence? I was hoping for a XXX, with faint or no florescence. But will I actually notice a difference in a triple VG stone?

And in terms of finding a stone with as few marks as possible - with a VS2 stone - what marks should I be concerned about, if any - besides black carbon spots?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

so, i have some comparison questions ...

I was hoping to stick with a F or G color, but considering my budget, I might have to go to H. I have compared a D to a H, and I can see a slight difference, but I have not compared a F or G to an H. Is there a significant enough difference that I should stick to G?

I have 5 stones - one being a G, and the other for being H ... regardless of cost, how would you rate them?

I have a chance to visit Union Diamond this week in ATL - anything specific I should look for in these diamonds?

I appreciate any advice anyone can offer as I''m trying to purchase a diamond this week so I can have it set in a custom setting that is being made for me.

Hi Pantherman

The original diamond is what we call a steep deep on Pricescope, it will very likely show light leakage.

The first stone from UD looks very promising.

Second one is too deep physically and again is a steep deep angled diamond, again possibility of leakage.

Third one, I don't think the grading report is loaded.

First James Allen stone - might be a hair shallow in the pavilion, an Idealscope image would tell us more.

Second JA stone looks very promising but the report isn't loaded, you would need to ask them to email you the details or upload the report.

Something like this is more promising.

Ask for an idealscope image from JA if you are interested.

I'm trying to stay under $5500 ...

Thoughts about this one?

The 1188717 stone is under 5500 when the PS discount is applied. No report or image posted for the 1247985 stone so cannot comment.

Thanks Lorelei for the links.

Ditto Lorelei''s comment. UD can supply IS image so ask for them. Learn how to interpret them and compare that to what you see when you viewed them personally.

Thanks for your help!

I''ve contacted UD and JA to get IS images for the stones - will post as soon as I get them!

Can I ask why you are not purchasing the stone from the jeweler making your setting? Using two different vendors introduces insurance and warranty issues you will need to be prepared for. I just wanted to mention this as being INFORMED CONSUMERS is what PS is all about.

I had a fantastic experience with Union Diamond btw which you can read about in the post on my signature.

Thanks for asking ... I actually have a personal contact who is making the setting. He makes settings for some well known jewelry stores. By purchasing the setting from him, he can make it for much less than any jeweler I''ve been too. However, the diamonds he was pricing me were a little steep compared to james allen, blue nile, etc. The fee for setting the diamond is nominal, and he has said there will be no warranty issues as he is the one setting the stone.

Thanks for the heads up on UD. I''m in atlanta this week, so I might swing by their store at some point.

I visited Union Diamond today, and was able to look at two diamonds. They did not have the two I had posted previously on hand, but they had two other very similar stones. I was able to look at them using the Ideal Scope, and compared to the images at http://www.ideal-scope.com/1.using_reference_chart.asp - they are EXTREMELY close to Excellent. They might be just a bit shallow - but I thought the looked very much like the Excellent images in terms of symmetry and depth.

The two stones are GIA #: 17622541 and 2101470497

Both are 1.02 ct

Thoughts on these two in terms of crown and pavilion angle?

James Allen Ideal Scope images will hopefully be available tomorrow.

I got one Ideal Scope from James Allen ...

GIA 17545166

Stone_cold11 - this is the one you recommended from JA.

The stone is tilted when the IS image is taken, but looks good.

GIA # 17622541

IS image ... I think I like this one the most ... thoughts?
