Anyone wanna just pick me out a diamond? I know virtually nothing about them. I''ve been sifting through articles and reading up on lots of things but it all seems so overwhelming. I have many a times been asked by a friend, "hey if I have X amount of money and want a TV about X inches , which TV should I buy?" being that I know a lot about tv''s. I tell them the pro''s and con''s and why I would buy it this or that one.

So, who wants to find me a diamond around 1.2-1.3 carats for, perferably, less then 5,000. I realize I can search and it gives me a list of about a million, but honestly other then carat and color, I don''t know much. When it comes to clarity I understand but its hard to just pick. I am buying this for a semi-mount that my girlfriend has pretty much picked out at, and i know this isn''t anyone''s favorite, Fred Meyers.
So what do you guys think? help me out?

A lazy pick, I was surprised to find, on the search by cut database, saving you $500.

Looks encouraging.

Anyone else previously see the JA "true hearts" thing. Think he''s got them?

My choice is not dependent on them.

Regards,

Ya, JA''s Hearts image looks good. OP, if you want a H&A, request the hearts image from JA too for this stone.

This one could be great, it has what appears to be a dark inclusion on the side which could be prongable.

Ira, JA are currently collating the hearts images for their h&a diamonds, they should be ready to offer them soon and you can request the image for their h&a diamonds now as they do have some ready.

Those both look like good choices in my price range. I just got a call from Fred Meyers who had got some diamonds in for me. They are EGL certified. We live about an hour away and my gf happened to be shopping in La Crosse where they were so she took a look. She said they looked nice, but who knows. The lady told her that the best one was a 1.29 carat, D in color, SI3, with an excellent-ideal cut for 5500 dollars. I know that EGL is a little less strict then GIA. The flaw in the diamond was described to me as an "angel hair" by my gf, that could only be seen by looking strait down from the back of the stone.
Personally, not seeing it, I''d say that the "lazy pick" sounds better, as its from better certifier, but I am unsure.
Any thoughts?

Go with what has been suggested to you hear. That does not sound good to me. An EGL SI3 will most likely--certainly have eye visible inclusions. You can get a better clarity and cut from one of the trusted vendors often used by consumers here. The color will probably be a bit lower, but with an ideal cut--you won''t notice much of a difference. Good Luck!
