After not purchasing the previous diamond I posted regarding (thanks for the replies for that one btw), I have a new diamond on hold that, on paper, seems perfect. I''ve been told by the sales rep that the stone is eye-clean, and that the fluor does not impart any milkiness. HOWEVER, they say they do not have a camera of necessary specs to take digital pics, idealscope, or ASET images of the stone. It is a major retailer from what I gather here on Pricescope, Solomon Brothers. The specs follow. Would you buy the stone sight unseen, or would that worry you? I plan on taking it to an appraiser after receiving it, and they do have a return policy, although I don''t know how easy it is to return stuff.

1.56ct G SI1
Pol/Sym: VG/VG
Cut grade: EX
crown angle: 33.5%
pav angle: 41%
table: 59%
depth: 60.7%
star: 55%
bottom half: 80%
cutlet: none
fluor: strong blue

Would people buy the stone and send it to an appraiser? I was thinking of sending it to David Atlas? If it doesn''t measure up, I just eat the cost of the appraiser?

Thanks!

looks promising from the numbers.

The numbers look good but I would do this. You are saving a lot of money going through Solomon, and so the extra cost is worth the peace of mind and you will still save in the long run.

+1. I think it looks like a great stone, but having it sent to David Atlas will give you that extra peace of mind. It''s worth it IMHO. Do you have to do this?? No, but then that''s just me. David Atlas has a stellar rep, so is well worth the money. And is worth putting your mind at ease.

I recently purchased a diamond sight unseen (crossing my fingers that it all works out for me)... but the return policy is nice so I''ll just have it checked out a.s.a.p and ship it right back if it''s not what I expected.

I don''t think you can go wrong with someone who is named ''David Atlas.'' Just think about it. Many appraisers have boring names, but ''David Atlas'' is the name of a super hero. I bet there are headlines about him like "David Atlas finds inclusions that are invisible to the naked microscope," or "Atlas'' super appraisal survives time travel." I bet he wears a cape beaded with diamonds.
