I have these Burmese spinel bracelets. I think is pretty rare and want to know what the price I can sell. I also did a little research and I found that smithsonian national museum has similar bracelets like mine.
 
Price depends on:
1. Colour of the spinels
2. Condition of the spinels and how well matched they are
3. Workmanship of the piece.

That said, it will be very difficult to find a buyer due to the impractical design. The points of the spinels are exposed to a lot of potential damage.
 
That is a rather Awesome bracelet !!! Looks like they are natural halves of the octahedron spinel crystal itself in that awesome red we all love !!! :love:

Have no clue on the price but it is an outstanding and rare piece..

These stones are from Mogok region of burma. The bracelets and all the stones have been in this condition for more than 20 years. As you can see, all the stones color are almost all the same awesome red. It's super rare now. I really enjoy keeping it.

I would be cautious about comparing them to those bracelets in price - those appear to be faceted rubies, which would vary wildly in price from uncut spinel crystals.


The obvious answer is that they're worth what someone will pay :). They're really lovely bracelets IMO.

The following post is PURE speculation, so please keep that in mind. Anyone who wants to disagree with me is likely right, so I am happy to defer to the more informed, lol.

They're somewhat unusual in that they're not cut stones, which may make them less appealing to more buyers overall, but more appealing to certain collectors.

I've seen the full size Burmese spinel crystals pop up for sale here and there, usually listed in a range of $30-125 per piece (though the ones I've seen actually sell tend to go for more of the $30-$75 range). The ones I've seen are usually around a carat, some more, some less.

Assuming that the ones in your bracelets are half sized, I'm guessing that they may be worth less bc of that or simply bc they may weigh less. I don't know what the sizes of the gems in your bracelets are, so everything I'm going to write is pure speculation (but that's all that anyone can really do anyway, especially since all we have is one picture to go off of).

If you have, say, 36 gems per bracelet at a value of $50 each (which may be on the high side), that's $1800. Then factor in whatever the gold weight might be, and you have a starting off point. (I'm assuming they're set in gold?)

Then again someone else might value them at $10 per stone or $100 (or more!) per stone. I would think that the fact that they're not cut is going to have a large affect on what you could expect to sell these for.

I like these types of crystals (I own one myself). I also like your bracelets and admire them; I personally would pay maybe $2k-$3k for one but probably not more. Someone else might be willing to pay far more, and others nothing at all (not liking the general style). That's where things get relative...

I'd be curious what an appraiser might say, although of course you have to take those with a grain of salt. An appraisal vs what something will actually sell for is often wildly different.

Anyway, I think they're quite interesting pieces! Are you looking to sell them? I wasn't sure bc in one post you mention selling but another post mentions keeping them. If selling - we really cannot tell you a price from pictures online. It's fun to speculate, but you'd want to get solid information from a professional who could evaluate it in person, so as not to ask too much or too little.

Eta - here are a few pics of my one little crystal :). For comparison purposes, it's 1.42 cts and I paid about $40 for it 2 yrs or so ago. (To me, yours look cleaner and brighter to me than my single stone, but again, it's hard to say off of just one pic).

I'm just drawing this out somewhere from the back of my memory but I believe these could be important, historically noteworthy pieces. I've seen something similar somewhere important but can't remember where. In short, I believe they may possibly have significant value beyond the intrinsic value of the component parts all depending on how old they are. Can you tell us any more about their age and history, and what part of the world they're from. They are stunning
 
I am planning to sell the bracelets, but the price you mention was way too low than I was expecting and I would rather keep for this kind of pricing. am seeing appriser soon. I will post more pictures when I got home.

Good point and I wanted to say something similar but couldn't seem to phrase it well so I left it out. It's important though.

The OP said they had been in the setting for 20 years - so I thought that it may not be as significant if that is accurate. That makes a piece vintage but not antique, correct? (Please correct me if wrong as that's not a strong point of mine). However if it IS older than 20 years and/or the gems were mined/found much earlier, it could still be very important info and could make a huge pricing difference. That's why I'm thinking proper appraisal is key if selling!

Eta - re-read and saw that post said "more than 20 years" so definitely something to keep in mind.

Yes, I would feel the same way, I understand. Your bracelets have a large amount of matched stones (or as matched as this type of cut can be) which will definitely increase the price too - my "estimate" was incredibly basic and didn't take such things into account.

Just keep in mind that appraisal vs actual selling cost can be very very different things. I would make sure the appraiser knows you're looking for a realistic selling price, that it's not for insurance purposes type of thing.

Are you in the US? If so a couple of suggestions............not sure Antiques Roadshow is still happening, but look it up as they will escort you into a nearby filming if you have something of historical/price value and they are filming near you. Otherwise send some photo's to the Smithsonian and ask for assistance on the provenance...........so you have any history beyond Burmese stones?

They certainly do have a great similarity to the ones from the Smithsonian that Soberguy posted. I would think they are very special, knowing absolutely nothing about them!

I feel like I've seen something similar at auction. But I cannot find the lot. It's kind of making me crazy lol! I know I've seen another example of this style. Are there and markings anywhere?
 
I would love to know if there was an auction for similar pieces. I might consider selling these in auction.

This is what i know for history of these bracelets. Bought this bracelets from ancestry of Shan Sawbwa's wife who husband was the ruler of Shan State in Burma. These bracelets might belong to her or her family. But I could not find who make these bracelets. I believe the bracelets was made a long time ago. I am not an expert and cant tell who made them and when was made.
 
I'd be leery of the stories of who the bracelets once belonged to. You did, however, say that you would be taking them to a knowledgeable appraiser, who undoubtedly will be able to provide some measure of detail and some sense of value.
 
Colorstonelover that is an amazing history of the bracelets. I have an old Indian Mughal piece and I would love to know who owned it.

OP: has anyone in your family even worn the bracelets? I can't tell whether you relatively recently acquired them, or whether they were passed down to you...either way, of course they are beautiful.
