What would most women (who are crazy about Antique OMC) wants?

A Nice built-up crown on their Antique Cushion, or would women sacrifice built-up for the Spread????

It is not just about spread, is it ?

Feel free to laugh at the trial below - I was quite curious at qhat a flat omc may look like!

I hope this is either overly pessimistic or downright wrong... would surely appreciate the right example!

ana. any info. as far as angles on these examples?

The pictures come from DiamCalc...

The proportions are:

The high one:
1 ct 6mm
crown: 20.5% (38.16 angle)
Girdle: 1.5 - 3.2%
table: 50
pavilion: 41.7% (40.75 angle)
Star: 52
Lgf: 60
Culet:0.05%

The pancake:
1 ct 6.43mm
crown: 9% (27angle)
Girdle: 1.4 - 3.1%
table: 65
pavilion: 41.2% (41 angle)
Star: 55
Lgf: 65
Culet:0.05%

I wanted a good balance - definitely the high crown angles for the "old mine" look, but not too overly deep. If I remember right, I think the depth of my stone was 67 or 68%. Mine has more spread than I was expecting to get: 9.3 x 7.9 mm, but it still is very characteristically OMC and "lumpy" looking - I think the crown angles were around 40 degrees .

I think the spread was a factor, but not the determining factor: I just wasn''t going to pay for a 3 carat stone that measured more like a 1.75 modern cushion!! It''s all about using your eyes and finding what sings to you.

Ari did show me one stone that was 4 carats, but measured about 8 x 8 mm!! It was so deep and had carried so much weight in the crown area that I swear that the side view of the stone looked like one of those ring pop lollipops!

It was awesome. LOL!

I think I''ll take the high crown version! Otherwise, it just wouldn''t be an Old Mine to me.

Plus, wouldn''t a low crown cut down on what Ana calls "virtual facets" -- those reflections of the open culet in the crown facets? That''s one of the things I love most about those stones!

All that being said, I''m not sure I''d want something too deep...there are limits to what I would do for love...

what is the range of total depth''s a great omc should have?

Any chance to go beyond the numerology into what exactly those diamonds look like?

''Guess over 100% they''d be called briolette or something. I''d hate to drop any number along with the possibilities the related proportions hold.

I am not sure I agree with your current tag line that beautiful diamonds lots of waste. There should be there some better way to justify a premium than yield. It must make sense for someone cutting diamonds, but for the buyer - what difference does it make how much diamond was wasted in the process?

Uh, both? I wouldn''t want a larger looking stone if it meant a flat, lifeless stone.

Ana, The Tag-line was a sarcastic comment to all "Ideall-spec" diamond lovers.
You should know by now that I "favor" on my posts usually odd-shaped damonds that have "nothing " to do with "Ideal"
On the contrary, I Scream out loud that every Diamond has its own inner and outer beauty.
