Hi there...I am new here, but after reading so many wonderful posts lately, I thought I should finally ask for your help...

I am looking for a round brilliant....With a budget of about $3000 - $3500 for a diamond, what carat size can I get without sacrificing the cut? Obviously I would like to go as large as my budget allows but still have a lovely diamond. I would be fine with an eye-clean, SI2 if that helps maximize the carat size...It''s the "measurements" and percentages that are confusing to me.

I would truly appreciate any advice or specific purchase suggestions you''re willing to give. :) Thanks!
 
I have the same budget so I know how frustrating it may be

hezbree. I think the best place to start is the Pricescope your diamond tool, put in your max limit and see what comes up :).

I did a quick search and found a 0.96 K S12 on GOG for just under your your max budget but it really depends on how much you want to sacrifice within colour and clarity to get size :).

Please post what choices you find and we can help you evaluate them further :)
 
How about this diamond from Blue Nile?

0.84ct, I, SI1, $3,096, AGS ideal, 0.8 on the HCA (ex/ex/ex/vg), and quite likely to be eye clean (when you look at the inclusion plot, it looks scary at first, but almost all of them are twinning wisps, which are virtually guaranteed to be invisible to the naked eye).

You may be able to go larger within budget, but this diamond has nice specs and what looks to be a fantastic cut!

ETA: Here's another stone that looks great by the numbers and is just a tad over budget, but slightly larger by carat weight and diameter.

I just bought a 0.83 ct F SI2 AGS000 H&A Crafted by Infinity RB for $3414 from Winfield''s. From what I''ve seen, unless you sacrifice a lot in color or cut you''ll probably max out at around 0.85ct. The problem is diamond of this size sell out like crazy. Just this week WF posted 3 diamonds in the 0.8ct range and they sold out even before they loaded the cert and other data online.

I''d keep your eye open for ideal cut diamonds in the 0.8ct range and reserve them ASAP!

All nice choices but it depends on how far you can stretch your budget. I bought a stone from Winfields cut by Infinity and it is amazing. It is an M I1 with Very Strong Flouro. I got it for a pendant so I don't mind the lower color but it is a beautifully cut stone. I have shown it around and no can believe it's has those specs. So I vote for that one as the price is right and it's an AGS Ideal. Wink can tell you how obvious the inclusions are. That's probably the thing you want to check out because it is an I1.

PS put things on hold if you are serious because there are a lot of lurkers on PS and things can go really quickly.
 
Does your budget include the setting or is it 3K to 3,500 for the stone only?

Are you guys color sensitive? I missed if you mentioned if you are - If not drop the color as low as you can tolerate. I would call Wink and talk to him about his I1 stones. Those can be a great value, especially if it is a prongable inclusion that was grade setting.

If you can stretch the budget I would call Good Old Gold and ask how eyeclean that stone is.

The Infinity link did not work but that was likely one of Wink's stones.

I would definitely call James Allen to ask about the G I1 stone. Be very clear what you mean by eyeclean/prongable when discussing with any of the vendors so that you are on the same page
