Can I ask for some dust?

I am an irregular poster, more of lurker, but always a reader of your heartwarming and insightful posts.
My husband and I were married in July and found out about one month ago we were pregnant when that urine pregnancy test quickly gave us those infamous double blue lines.
We went to our first doctor’s appointment yesterday and found out we are having twins. I wish the story stopped there…
Our little ones are mono/mono twins which are extremely rare (1% of all twins pregnancies). This means they share a placenta and an amniotic sac, creating a myriad of complications which include cord strangulation and twin/ twin transfusion as there isn’t a membrane separating our little ones.
The doctor is recommending a really strict schedule which starts out with weekly ultrasounds, until week 12, bi-weekly from week 13-22, hospitalization starting at week 22 until delivery so they can constantly monitor the little ones (other statistics are online but it’s painful to type them out). All that sounds exhausting just thinking about it.

It’s so hard not be excited when I am so damn scared. But as my mom says fear and faith can’t live in the same body…I just needed someone to tell as none of our friends or families know…

Please send prayers.

Peace, love, and smiles,

LL

dust and glows headed toward you! ((hugs))

I have twins too, although mine are fraternal. So first of all, CONGRATS!

Second, make sure you do a ton of reading and find the best doctors you can. There are MANY docs who specialize in momo twins-get one if you can! I am amazed at the difference in care between a doctor who knows what they are doing and one who hasn't really dealt with twins before. So make sure your doc is one of the former. There is a LOT more to monitor than simply just ultrasounds.

And third, there are many many healthy sets of momo twins out there-so be positive!

And last, have you checked out twinstuff.com? There are many many mommas of momo twins there who have been there and done that. Also see if you have a twin mom group in your area-they can be a really great resource for doctors and tips.

And one more thing (sorry-but I have done a lot of reading on it!) **sometimes** it can be difficult to be sure that they don''t have a membrane in there. Was this a level 2 ultrasound with a specialist? Or just a normal doctor''s ultrasound? If the latter, make sure to see a perinatologist very soon and have it redone to be sure.

LOTS OF DUST!! You''ll get through this.

Congratulations! My husband and I were married in July and we are expecting as well!

Lots of dust and Hugs!

Lots of dust your way and many congrats on your babies!!!

Neatfreak,

Thanks for the kind words. I am in process of having my records tranferred to a maternal fetal medicine specialist in the area. I have done quite a bit of reading since the news yesterday and improvement in outcomes are consistent with monitoring( thanks so very much for the advice).
Also, we have an appt next week to see if the membrane is really not there. I will let you know what the verdict is...
(ps: I hope you twins are doing well)

**DUST**DUST**DUST**

I hope everything turns out well for you, and your twins.

Meresal, Skippy, and Sara,

Thank you...

PERFECT. Just wanted to make sure since in my experience some doctors won't transfer you to a MFM because they have big egos and think they can handle it.

A few other tips to prevent pre-term labor: drink TONS of water (dehydration can bring on contractions), don't overextend yourself, and if you think AT ALL that you might be experiencing symptoms of pre-term labor get yourself to L&D. Don't worry about whether they think you are overreacting-a mother's instinct has been shown to be very right on when it comes to thinking "something just isn't right" and there actually being something going on.

Also, you might want to explore the potential benefits of progesterone suppositories. There have been a few research studies that have shown that they can help prevent PTL in twin moms and there seemingly aren't any known side effects. They are cheap and easy. Obviously we don't know if this helped but at 28 weeks my doc thought I would for sure deliver early because of a super super short cervix. I did some research and went on progesterone suppositories and made it to my 38 week c-section. So while we don't know if that helped or not it certainly didn't hurt. So talk with your doctor about it-they can advise you if it might be something you'll want to try.

Oh-and be prepared to have them at 34 weeks. I don't believe they let momo twins go past that.

Hang in there and STAY POSITIVE. Visualize those babies baking away till 34 weeks.

luvinlife, congrats on your little ones and TONS of dust for you - keep us posted! I''d love to know how things turn out.

Neatfreak,

I am here in tears afters reading your post (must be the double dose of hormones!). Once again thanks a ton for you advice. My OB initally said he could handle the pregnancy, but after reading (and then reading some more), I think these little ones have an increased chance of ''cooking'' longer if they are seen by a specialist the entire time.
I will ask about the suppositories. If you have anymore information to pass on, I welcome it.

:)

Aww I know how hard a twin pregnancy can be-it's very stressful and you feel like it's all on you. But you can only do what you can do-and the rest is a bit of faith and a lot of luck. Just STAY POSITIVE. That's the best thing you can do for your babies and yourself.

Stick with your gut-a regular OB should *NOT* be handling a momo twin pregnancy. I stayed with my OB for my relatively easy didi pregnancy-but even he sent me to the MFM very regularly for additional monitoring. AND he had delivered many many twins in the past so I trusted him.

But if my twins had been anything but didi I would have had my care transferred to a specialist. They have much better outcomes-why risk it ya know? That's what they are there for!

And please join the pregnant PSers thread when you feel up to it-lots of wonderful support there! I'm around if you need anything (when my twins don't have me running around of course!)

Congrats and ***DUST***

Congratulations - and lots of dust for you, your husband and your two wee ones!

prayers and dust your way sweetie -

Oh, I am going to include you and your little ones in my prayers.

Some PSers gave me some helpful advice when I was worried...They said speak encouraging words to your little beans..have heart to hearts with your tummy and send healing energy their way!

I love what your mom said and I'm going to take that to heart personally.

Sending a prayer to heaven to ask for angels to protect your twins.

Congrats on your pregnancy. Sending you tons of dust! Hang in there and stay positive! We''re all rooting for you and your babies!

I''m so glad neatfreak was able to give you such fantastic twin momma advice. I think the best thing you can do right now is educate yourself so that you can help your doctors take the best care of you and your little ones possible. Big hugs, and keep us updated on how you and the babies are doing.

Sending lots and lots of prayers and dust for a happy and healthy pregnancy and two beautiful healthy babies.

Congratulations !!! I pray for your peace and well-being and a happy and successful pregnancy to bring your beautiful babies into the world.

One of my favorite verses is "Be still and know that I am God" it helped me through difficult pregnancies. It became a mantra to give me peace and keep moving forward.

LOTS of HUGS to you!!!

Congrats on your pregnancy!

Neatfreak has some good advice. The most important thing you can do is find a good doctor and do what is recommended during this pregnancy.

There are many healthy mono twins in the world. I just met a pair on Friday! Stay positive, and I hope things go well for you.

Congrats on the pregnancy!!!! Sending you tons and tons of dust for your twins. I know you can do this!!! Hoping you find a great doc to see you through this journey. Neatfreak has given you great advice. HUGS!!!!! Hoping all goes well for you and the twins!!!!
