Finally!!!

"As early as next week, the Boy Scouts of America may announce it will allow gay Scouts and troop leaders, a spokesman for the group has told USA TODAY."

Story: http://www.usatoday.com/story/...-united-way/1870919/

Apparently they'll still let their local chapters discriminate if they want to, but I think that will be short-lived and a BSA-wide nondiscrimination policy is inevitable.

While that would be great, too little too late. I still will not support them as an organization.

Interesting. I just read this last night: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/27/boy-scout-pack-drops-gay-_n_2561605.html?ir=Gay+Voices

"A Maryland-based Cub Scout pack has backed down on its non-discriminatory pledge toward gay participants after pressure from its regional council.

As Mother Jones reported, Pack 442 of Cloverly, Md. had "anonymously voted and overwhelmingly approved" to adopt a non-discrimination statement, which declared that the group would not discriminate "against any individual or family based on race, religion, national origin or sexual orientation."

By Jan. 26, however, Pack 442 officials had posted the following message on the group's website:

"Due to pressure from the National Capital Area Council, Pack 442 is being forced to remove its Non-Discrimination statement posted below in order to keep our Charter (up at end of Jan). Please feel free to send feedback to the following NCAC Leaders at 301-530-9360: Sarah Pelter, Director of Field Services; Les Baron, Scout Executive."

I wish this were so, and I certainly hope you're right, Kenny. But I'll believe it when I see it.

I hope you're right, Kenny, but I'm not hopeful.

I only HOPE this is the direction they are moving in the near future. I won't be holding my breath though. :nono:

I just saw this on the news. I hope it goes through. But from the report, supposedly each chapter is free to make their own rules about who they will or will not accept... So it wouldn't be a blanket acceptance thing.

This has seemed so hurtful and unnecessary from the beginning. :angryfire: When the BSA took a stand against gay scouts and leaders it was as if they were going out of their way to be ignorant. My hope is that this backpedaling may help in repairing the damage that's already been done.
