Hi there I had remount a 3 prongs diamond into a 4 prongs and realised that there are marks present on the bruted girdle that were not seen before the remounting. They appeared like tiny scratches under 10X magnification. Are those scratch marks? is it possible to scratch a bruted girdle? will remounting scratch or affect a diamond in anyway?tks

Are you seeing scratches or residue? Bruted girdles can get dirty and without professional boiling it can be extremely difficult to remove.

Yes, I also was thinking it was metal residue that your diamond's abrasive bruted girdle scratched off of the previous metal prongs.

If so, it is the old prongs that got scratched by the hard diamond material, not the other way around.

Hi there, I tried taking a closer look and yes its scratches!! The bruted girdle should have been ''matt finish'' however I believe that in the process of remounting certain tools has scratches the girdle. The scratch lines appeared shinier making those scratches look ''polished''..

Get a pro cleaning to make sure it isn''t metal residue to rule it out, this can look like scratches sometimes.
