Good Morning All...

I am trying to narrow down the color of my bouquet and I need some help. I''m wearing an ivory dress and my bridesmaid are wearing blue velvet dresses. I originally said I''d do all white bouquets for them and myself. My only concern is the bouquets looking so plain. Should I add some color to the bouquets? If you have pics of something that would look cute please post them.

Thanks in advance,

Lots of brides do all white bouquets! I think it would look beautiful, not boring. You could wrap your bouquet in a different color ribbon from your bridesmaids, or you can add some color to theirs. You can add some extra greens to theirs, or add some hydrangea. Or just mix up the textures - like if your bouquet is all white calla lilies, you can make theirs all white roses mixed with a few callas.

Lots of options!

If you want to post more details about your dresses, your wedding style, decorations, centerpieces, and white flowers that you were imagining, we can help you further.

when you say they''re wearing blue velvet dresses, do you mean dresses that are blue made out of velvet fabric or do you mean dresses from say david''s bridal in the shade of blue named blue velvet?

all white bouquets aren''t plain at all, especially depending on how you do them. for example, an all white bouquet with a lot of texture is beautiful--you just do a bouquet made of flowers that have slightly different shapes and styles. you can do that with centerpieces, too--my cousin''s, for example, were hydrangeas and calla lilies, both all white. when is your wedding? you need to summons Gypsy!!!

Sorry I should have been a little more specific. The color is blue velvet and their dress actually came from David''s Bridal. Here are a couple of pictures to give you more of an idea. For centerpieces I''m doing a single rose in a vase. We''re trying to cut down on some expenses so instead of doing big flower centerpieces I''m having them criss cross two blue sashes on the table.

Oh I forgot to mention I''m also doing the flowers myself. This is the bouquet I want and I''m trying to get ideas for the bridesmaids. I thought about doing a 3-5 white rose bouquet.

Oops the picture didn''t post. Here you go

i figured the dresses were the ones from david''s bridal. we loved the color they looked like they were on the internet and in the print ads, but the actual fabric samples were so much darker that they didn''t work with the rest of our colors. it''s such a pretty color, though!

if you''re trying to cut back on expenses, what about having each bridesmaid just carry a single calla lily? and if you''re wanting to bring in color, you could do that on those by having the stem tied with a ribbon matching the dresses maybe? your bouquet is really pretty--that''s exactly what i meant about texture because the flowers in it are so different. really beautiful1

I''ve seen this - it can be very beautiful. Especially against a dark dress! Small bouquets can end up looking cheap, but this looks elegant and classic instead. Great idea, doodle.

thanks, pjean! would something kind of like this work?

My BMs carried a single long stem white flower with a ribbon against their (pale) blue dresses. I think with blue, there can be too much greenery, so the single flower looked elegant and didn''t add too much. My bouquet was all white flowers and kind of cascading. I had a detailed embroidery on top and a full skirt on bottom. Too small and the bouquet just looks funny against such an ornate and big dress.

Your bouquet looks perfect. Beautiful and probably easy to make yourself. We will have to share ideas for DIY flowers because I''m probably going to do mine too!

For the bridesmaids, you can also look into:
1. Hydrangeas, because you get a lot of "pow" from just one stem.
2. Or mix white hydrangea with roses for textural interest. (hydrangea come in all different colors)
3. Mix white roses with white spray-roses, also creating textural interest.
4. White roses with baby''s breath, in a small posy shape.
5. Incorporate a blush pink color (super super light pink) or bicolor cream/pink roses (like one called Dolce Vita).

Here''s a photo of an all hydrangea bouquet. This is a big bridal bouquet. You could probably do just one or two bunches with some greens.

here''s roses with hydrangea. I would do less hydrangea than in this photo. The roses kind of get lost in such a big poof of hydrangea.

here is a photo of light pink spray roses. I''m not sure what "blue velvet" looks like. If it''s a navy blue, then having them carry white flowers with a touch of pink and green would be gorgeous. It would be such a nice contrast of dark and light. And the blush pink adds an extra touch of romance and flirtation.

here''s the dolce vita bicolor white and pink rose. so gorgeous!
