DISCLAIMER: this post might have a little TMI. i apologize! and it is really embarrassing... but anyone that i would feel comfortable asking this in real life has no idea.

After talking it over with FI, he decided that it would really mean a lot to him for me to stay in my wedding dress until we got home from the reception (including the hour long drive home!blah). so basically i need to find an outfit so to speak for the nite that will fit under my dress.

so my question is this. do you think that a pretty wedding nite worthy corset would fit under my dress? it''s a dropped waist, so i''m thinking this might be tough. also, this sort of rules out anything like spanx or other keepingitallin underwear that while functional, isn''t all that pretty. i attached a picture of my dress so you know what i''m working with....

okay, going to go hide for awhile......

This isn''t an embarrassing question! When you say home, do you mean home as in your house or home as in the hotel room for the night?

home as in my/our apartment. we''re *waiting*, so it''s sort of a big deal for us to be in the place that is newly "ours".

mimzy, Try looking for waist cinchers that can double as garter belt. Here's one from Frederick's of Holloywood
Ulitmate Waist Cincher

I would stick with white and lacey panties and a bra. What if you got home and ran to the bathroom to change into something underneath your dress? Or is that too much of a hassle.

thanks for the link! unfortunately i''m really looking for something along the lines of actual lingerie, not just a shaper. i''d post a picture...but it might be a little too raunchy for PS (NOT that i''m looking for raunchy!wow this is horrible....)

i''ve never worn something like a corset before, much less with a wedding dress so i''m just not sure if they can be worn together.

this is where i die of embarrassment. it needs to be something that is just BANG! THERE! under the dress....

You should be able to find any strapless corset that would work. I was suggesting the cincher because it seemed like you didn''t want to go the corset/bustier route. I personally think the corset is the best thing for a sexy bridal look. Just make sure whatever you get has garter straps. Men *love* garter straps with lace top stockings. Oh and make sure you get stockings WITHOUT silicone "no slip" things on them. You''ll have your garters to keep them up. The silicone will just get uncomfortable when you wear it all day.

So: white corset/bustier with garter straps and lace top stockings WITHOUT no-slip thingies in them.

yeah,no i am all about the corset/bustier thing, i''m just not sure if it will fit under my dress or if it will be super obvious where it ends (i''m envisioning a really visible line all the way around the dress). i also am worried about adding too much bulk....

Here''s a link to a page with a few different styles of Corsets

I have two "outerwear" corsets that I wear alone, but have worn also under things and I don''t think you will have a problem with it showing under your dress if you get one with thinner material. I also have a hard structured, boned "RenFair" type corset that I could never wear under something without people seeing the line.

It is similar to wearing one of those long line bras that clasp in the back, no one sees the line from those that so many people wear with wedding dresses, why would the see the line from the corset? Just don''t get one with tons of ruffles or something, go for more of a satin or pleather

smooth material

as long as it is thin, I think you'll be ok. I wore a lace "merry widow" style corset under my dress and you couldn't see it.

ETA: Mine came from Lauren Silva and was the Goddess Merry Widow in Lace. I needed that for the length (I'm long waisted) but I thought it was really nice.

THIS plus sexy underwear would work. It fit under my dress even though I ultimately decided not to wear it.

If you need something with support for your dress, but you also want to be able to wear it for the ... activities afterwards, this might work:
http://www.davidsbridal.com/accessory_detail.jsp?stid=3563&prodgroup=206

The bra is low enough in the back for low backed dresses and has the option for garters. This and a fun pair of white panties (like these: http://www.fredericks.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=Holiday2002&category%5Fname=Panty&product%5Fid=52733) would be simple and appropriate for the evening, but also functional for your wedding day.

I disagree with forgoing the no-slip style! I wore a corset with garter straps and stockings. I got the no-slip kind from VS and I''m really glad I did! They didn''t bother me at all and the garter straps actually slipped off at one point, so if I''d had the regular ones, my stocking would''ve fallen down!

Mimzy, I agree that if you go with something thin you shouldn''t be able to see it underneath your dress. I actually think you''d be able to hide boning under there too. I''d just make sure that whatever you buy can be returned so that you can try it on with the dress.

thanks everyone for your posts! it looks like i won''t have to worry about this too much, as there are a lot of options out there. I''ll just make sure to keep it thin and is long enough (my torso is freakishly long). i especially loved the last two that neatfreak posted! (now if only i can find the same one for like a fourth of the price...

). thanks again!

If you have a Charlotte Russe near you they always have corsets for pretty cheap. That''s where I got the two I wear as outer wear. They aren''t the highest quality (as in the boning won''t really shape you) but they have a thin satin one that is pretty standard and comes in many colors which might work for you. I think the ones I got were around $20.

Hey, Mimzy,

I think a corset under the dress should be perfectly fine. I mean, it already has the built-in corset, so nothing would show through.

Also, I wore underwear with big pink hearts on them and you couldn''t see a thing--the lining underneath the dress is so, so thick (because as you know it turns into a layer of lining, then crinoline, then more lining, the tulle and finally the silk overlay). You could wear a parka under it and nobody would see it.

I think something like this would be perfect: corset

Apparently I''m bored or something...and, well, BFs birthday is a month off, so I''m browsing...another corset

Mimzy - you look amazing in your gown!!! I think the sexiest option (and the most comfortable) would be to wear absolutely nothing underneath.

thanks girls! Freke and Brazen, those are definitely two i''m going to consider! i especially like the one from macys.

NEL, thanks for chiming in! that''s reassuring for sure. one less thing to worry about!

LAJen, thanks! that would certainly be the most comfortable option for sure

You're buying him a corset?

ETA: Mimzy, would you be able to not wear anything underneath? I kinda like that idea...although it might make you feel really naughty all day, which may or may not be how you want to feel on your wedding day.

I also LOVE that you refer to sexy lingerie as "underoos."

And Gwen, He''s put on a few pounds and needs to cinch in that waist.

Ok, not really, but it is our 2 year anniversary tomorrow...and then his birthday a month later...

mimzy, I realize that you want your wedding night to be special because you "waited", and that''s really sweet in this day and age, but...allow me to dose you up with reality hon...Sex on the wedding night isn''t usually all that faboo (according to others, *ahem*, not speaking from experience...).

You''re going to be exhausted with all the the wedding festivities, plus there is a natural exhaustion/release of knowing that all the wedding stuff is finally over. What I''m saying is, I''d also get a really nice "sumthin sumthin" for the next night/morning, just in case the wedding night doesn''t pan out the way you think it will. And also, I wanted to say this so you can hopefully not be disappointed if it doesn''t pan out that way. You have the rest of your lives to hit the sheets...so if it happens, great for you. But if you''re too tired or buzzed or exhausted, I hope you''ll laugh it off and not be too disappointed...

I wore my gown and a corset all day long (from 10am until about 6pm) and did just fine. Your gown is just amazing.

Mine looked almost exactly like this
Empire #6709 $59.75 one, I got from Fredricks.

thanks SDL! i think i''m going to have to get up the nerve to take a trip into a fredericks sooner or later!

thanks for your input surfgirl. believe me, every wedding related book i''ve read (all two and a half of them) and every magazine i''ve flipped through (slightly more) have made it a point to acknowledge that nookie rarely occurs on the actual wedding nite and if it does it is usually subpar for all those reasons you''ve stated.

regardless my FI has made this special request of me and of course i am going to oblige him

. we''re having an evening ceremony (so no early mornings) and we are leaving the reception about a half hour or so before it ends and neither of us drink, so we don''t have to worry about being sleepy from that. i don''t care whether it''s good or not, it''s going to happen no matter what! even if we are half asleep
2.gif

but don''t worry. i''ve actually been stockpiling lingerie for the past few months so i''ll have PLENTY of options for the next day or five or ten
