Hi everyone,

In your opinion, would the Brian Gavin Truth 3 stone setting (http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/three-stone/truth-x-3-18k-white-gold-5450w18) look good with smaller diamonds? The ring in the sample pic looks like it is set with very large stones. My center is 6.2mm (0.98) and the two sides are just a tad under 5mm each (~0.50 caraters). Do you think this setting would look good with my size stones, or would they be overwhelmed? Thank you for your thoughts!

Refresh my memory about the mm size of your stones?

Why are you resetting your stones? I think your ring is to die for!

Gypsy,

They are 5mm / 6.2mm / 5mm.

This one is lovely too  : http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/three-stone/queen-dinah-3-stone-18k-white-gold-5678w18 but my sides may be too big for it since it says it only fits up to .50ctw. and mine are 1ctw. I think I like that better than the Truth x 3 though, since I like the cross bars on the baskets to be straight.

I would talk to Lesley she can tell you if it would work for your stones or not. You do have a beautiful ring!!

My preference is the Truth as opposed to the Queen Dinah - I like the sides better and the notched/"V" of the basket bar (can't think of that name!) and its hard to tell, but I think the Truth side stones don't "droop" to the same angle as the Queen Dinah, but that's hard to tell so I could be just seeing things ...

I'm having mine reset in the 3 stone trellis because I love the swoop of a trellis!

Thank you! The prongs are all messed up, so it's probably best to get a new setting. Also, I love that bands will sit flush with the Truth x 3.

I think it would be very pretty set with your stones Laila!

I think it'll look great in the Truth setting! The one that Mom2boys linked is beautiful. Yours will have different proportions but I think it'll definitely work!

Thanks ladies for your opinions! I'll e-mail BGD and see what they have to say.

I think it is a beautiful setting, too, but Brian and Lesley will certainly know if they have set it with similar size stones and whether it is a good idea!

I hope you do get it as I love that setting! If I was getting a 3 stone I would buy that one.

It will work fine! The side stones on Mom2boys ring for example are small and the basket still looks gorgeous. And that is all you really would see different on yours: The basket would be smaller. That basket has been posted with stones your center size too. I had a similar basket, the Legato at WF, for a 6.1mm stone and it looked great.

Thanks everyone. Definitely not going with this ring though, since BGD said they would charge me $550 more than the stock price just to modify the head. Crazy! For me at least, their quotes are always so much higher than any other PS vendor. Expecting more quotes soon though...

How did you want it modified?

Gypsy,

Double claw prongs on the center basket.

Call back. Ask for Lesley. ONLY. Ask if the price for the modification is firm.

Ditto this. She seems to work magic on prices! ;))

Are you sure you want double prongs? The prongs on this design are a little bit thicker and then taper inward so it may look a little bulky on your stone if you have double prongs?

Personally I would not double claw the a center stone of 6mm. Double claws are hard to do well, and I think it's even tougher to do on stones that aren't honkers. I like the setting as is. It's clean.

I agree. I wouldn't double claw either.

That's a good point. I have a stone that's about 6mm and since it's an octagon I REALLY wanted double prongs to emphasize the corners. But, even with Steven doing my prong work I had to accept that it was too much. Either the stone was gonna be the star or the prongs were.

I'd do single prongs too.

My current 3 stone setting has double prongs (though not claws, the jeweler wasn't capable of it) and it's fine, honestly. In the Pricescope world, 6.23 mm is not a big stone, but in the real world, it's a nice size and double prongs work. ;) I like how it makes the center a bit different from the two sides, especially since my sides are almost the same size as it.

Here's a RLP shot, the prongs aren't even really noticeable IRL. You almost can't tell there are double prongs.

I will maybe call Lesley though, and see what she has to say. Thanks for the advice!

Well, 6.2 is .4 mm bigger than mine. And in diamond world that's a BIG difference. Your ring does look lovely.

I personally consider 500 to customize just fine if it means getting EXACTLY what I want.
