so after we are married, i wanted us to have a breakfast with only immediate family--counting fiance and me that would be 10 people. i did not want a big ordeal-just small so that we could thank our family and tell them bye after the wedding. do you think this is ok? fmil wants to invite everyone still in town and thinks its wrong no to. the way the flights are scheduled, basically all of our guests will still be in town. i just hate that i even brought up the idea now because i don''t want to have to do small talk and everything that morning-i just want an intimate breakfast with our family.

I was exactly the same! My mom was thinking about doing a whole brunch thing but it was just too much and I didn't want to have to be on yet again. We had a rehearsal dinner with all the out of town guests so I was just over it!

What we did was make "loose plans" to meet up with just my parents and sisters (my husband is an only child) so that it wasn't some official thing. Then we told my MIL sort of last minute so unfortunately there was no time to invite the other out of town guests!

oh good call!!!! i wish i had i thought of that. i know that she wants all of her brothers and their kids there, but with the extended family, the breakfast will end up being 30 people min. i just don''t want that! originally, fiance and i were just going to have brunch alone and i thought it would make our parents feel good if we included them. i don''t know how it snowballed into this.

I was planning on doing this, too. And, I didn''t even think it would be improper not to invite everyone...was just planning on immediate family. Hmmm...but I like the idea of a "loose" get together.
