I have a rectangular cushion that is beautiful, sparkly and very bright. I can not see a bowtie in most lighting but at night in certain lighting and angle I can see a dark line going across the stone. It is in the same spot whenever I see it. When I turn the stone east west, the line disappears. Is this a bowtie, a shadow or could it just be contrast? Is a bowtie something you can see all the time and not only in some lighting? I tried to take photos but everything came out fuzzy. I love the stone but man the dark line bugs me when I see it.

Hmmmmm... you think it could be reflections of some facets within the stone?

A lot of cushions have bowties, esp when they get more rectangular. Some rectangular stones will also appear to have a dark cross in them, again due to the cut.

My cushion has a bowtie only visible in certain lights. Mine is on the smaller side (.77) so that may be why mine plays hide and seek.

Yes, exactly the bowtie is playing hide and seek.... I thought a real bowtie is always there but more noticeable in certain lighting but in my cushion it can only be seen in certain lighting. I guess I have to decide whether this is something I can live with. Big bummer because other than the bowtie, I absolutely love it.

I was wondering about this but when I do see it, it is always on the same spot and it is a straight line that goes from edge to edge. Can reflections happen on same spot in a straight line? I thought maybe a shadow from the shank but I covered the shank with a white cloth and it is still there.

I am no expert and I am sure others will pitch in... Seems to be that it is somewhat of a bowtie/window where you can see through the stone... But the diamond seems very sparkly and pretty. Perhaps its the combination of the cut and the shape... maybe a different setting could minimized this appearance.it is a gorgeous ring!

So you think it is a bowtie and it''s just not me being crazy? Or is this suppose to be normal contrast thing? I sooooo want to keep this ring but I am obsessed with the darn line. BTW thanks for your help!
