So today I took the plunge and bought my dress. As most of you know I am waffle girl when it comes to making these types of decisions...even my e-ring was a nightmare to figure out. So this week I told AL...I have to get serious about this and stop fooling around. The wedding is only 5.5 months away and I don''t even have a dress. Also, the shocked expression of a friend of Greg''s when she asked me about my dress after asking the wedding date and I told her I didn''t have one really spurred me to get going.
So yesterday I went to a local store where alot of brides get their dresses, I''d made a visit to them back in March of this year. Yes a while. So they pulled my card again, I tried on some of the original ones I''d originally seen, and then some new ones. I''ve lost about 10 lbs since Jan of this year, so I fit into all the samples which was awesome...because then you can really see what the dress looks like vs having it pinned in areas and then trying to ''imagine'' it.
While they were pulling my dresses, I was shopping around looking for other ones I''d missed and I saw this one dress go into a fitting room and thought, wow that looks really pretty and very thin. So I told my girl that I wanted to see if she could snag that one if they didn''t like it. About 10 min later, the woman in there left and didn''t buy anything, so I asked to see the dresses in that room. Pulled the one I saw and saw that in person it looked even prettier and very interesting. So put it into the pile.
Tried on all the dresses. Each one looked good...as I said, I am horrible at making these decisions. My sales
assistant didn''t help either because she loved everything as well. Even the people there to try on other dresses and their families liked almost all the dresses I put on. No help there. So narrowed it down to about 4--and then forced myself to narrow it down again to two before I left. I wanted to come back today with my mother and make the final decision--because they had told me that I was on the cusp of ordering too late...so had to do it ASAP.
Went back in today and made the decision with the help of my very picky mother. She loved the same one I did (I had one favorite) hands down over the other one, and so I bought the store sample. It was $350 cheaper and it fit perfectly, the only alterations are going to be some missing beadwork, a new zipper and a modified neckline (Its a scoop and I want it to be more of a V for a tiny bit of cleavage). The hem is perfect, the size is perfect...etc. Also this way I don''t have to wait the 5 months for the ordering (I was cutting it REALLY close....a special order would have come 3 weeks before the wedding...no room for error and minimal alteration time) and I have the dress in my possession the whole time for try-ons with jewelry, shoes etc. So it''s off at the cleaners right now and I will have it in about 1.5 weeks.
The funniest thing about all of this is that the dress I chose is the one that I pulled from that other dressing room. So if I hadn''t been in that spot at that time and seen that dress go into that room, I wouldn''t have bought it today. The other dresses looked excellent as well, it was a hard decision, but I guess this was just the one I was supposed to go with.
Bonus is that it''s a Rena Koh which is an excellent designer, and I wasn''t even trying to get a designer dress. So it''s very well made, and for a sample price!
