Hello everyone! I'm still undecided on how to set my 3 H & A BGD signature diamonds (0.55 ct, 2.3 ct, 0.55 ct). Should I set them into a 3 stone setting or completely change my plans to a solitaire + earrings?

What are some of the pros and cons of 3 prongs vs. 4 prongs on the side diamonds of the 3 stone? Are they secure? I do like the look of the side stones tucked in and slightly tilted under the center stone. Do the proportions of the stones I've chosen look okay?

Should it be flush or not flush to eternity band--which is preferable?

If anyone has pictures of any of these settings, please post w/ additional info on diamond ct weight and ring size!

Thanks!!!

Yippeee!! I can't wait to see your new BGD diamonds. Have you posted the links to these diamonds? Would love to see them.

I'd say go for the 3-stone ring. Haven't you wanted it for a while now? I'd say the proportion is just *perfect*. I do love 4-prongs on the sidestones more than the 3-prong as the latter makes the sides look more like pears rather than round. Just my own personal preference.

Oh and I like both the classic and the "truth" but the latter would allow you to see more of the sides/ pavillions. I voted for the "truth".

I really love the way Yssie's three stone ring looks with a plain band. If you want a really blingy look, then the 3 stone with an eternity ring will achieve that! If it was for me, I'd go with a solitaire to wear with a diamond eternity ring or a 3 stone with plain band and just wear the eternity ring when I didn't want to wear the 3 stone ring. But you will be fine with either decision! I love your new diamonds!

You're lucky to have the options!! If it were me, I'd do a ring and earrings...I'd never turn down the opportunity to have more bling.

I also LURVE Yssie's ring. The fact that you can bling it up or down provides great versatility....that's what I'd do if the decision were mine...

Another vote for the three stone! Classic and timeless, I can't imagine how blinded you'll be by the bling!

I'd go for the 3-stone ring. BGD made one for our 20th anniversary...1.0/2.2/1.0...all H & A...it turned out really nicely

I can't seem to get a "great" photo...I love Yssies....

 :o

I adore the Open Gallery Accented. I love the one prong at the end of each sidestone, and I think it has the classiest profile. You can't go wrong though.

Personally I would get the three stone ring!! And I loooooove Yssie's set. Something about the droopy setting and three pings on the side stones make it look so fluid and graceful!!

I reread this and I think it sounds confusing. The photo is one of the glamous shots of ours, not Yssie's. I love the photo's Yssie takes of hers...wish I could duplicate :).

Danzur--your ring is beautiful!!! I saw it in the photo gallery on the their website and always wondered about the specifics on it!

Dreamer D--I know you were looking to also upgrade to a 3 stone--which one did you eventually decide upon?

I'm still waiting on Yssie to reply w/ her input since she has helped me in the past!

I've been admiring MissGotRocks, Rosetta's and BrightIce's 3 stone rings also!

I'm biased of course because I have so enjoyed my three stone ring. I like the Truth ring but I really feel like if it was me, I would go with the open gallery accented style. There is something about it that has always appealed to me.

I will say this though - after having had the three stone ring, I can't imagine going back to a solitaire setting although there have been many that I have loved and admired here on PS through the years. I don't think solitaire settings look as good on my finger as the three stone rings do. However, if you're not dead set on a three stone, then the earring and solitaire ring might be a real option for you. You can always get other side stones down the road but I can almost guarantee that if you go with the three stone, you'll never want to separate those stones!

I voted Open Gallery - best of luck to you - these decisions can be so tough!!

Anyone have the 3 prongs on side diamond on a 3 stone setting?

eep, how did I miss this thread?

THREESTONE, no question!! The stones you have would be fabulous together!!

My vote is for the open gallery accented, but I prefer three pronged sides - my original threestone had four prong sides, and I didn't like the 'squaring off' effect on the smaller stones. I love the look of rounds with pears too, so I don't mind that the three prongs make my sides look a bit pear-ish! I was originally worried that they'd be less secure w/ fewer prongs, but they do make them ever so slightly thicker than when there are more prongs to compensate, and so far I haven't had even a hint of trouble, so I've stopped worrying about it.

I like a plain band with mine but MGR's new eternity looks fantastic with hers! So fantastic I had to go try one on myself... sadly it was not the complement to my ring and hand that it is to hers...

Another of my personal preferences regarding the truth, for larger stones - or rather, combinations with larger stones that stretch further horizontally - I generally like threestones to have the same tulip-ey profiles as solitaires, so if choosing that one I'd have them pinch those shoulders in quite a bit, so that that inward curve is exaggerated like w/ the other two. It's a bad pic but I think it shows what I mean -

Re. Rosetta's - you'd have to go through WF, from what I've seen it's virtually the same as mine - close enough to be a protected design now that it's a WF stock setting, at any rate, I should think.

danzur - whoa!!

I'd say that is a *great* photo! Beautiful!!!

I read through Yssie's posts about the 3 prong vs. the 4 prong sides, and agreed with her that the 3 prong seemed to flow better, and the 4 prong looked a bit more square. I'm happy we did as the ring turned out beautifully.

centralsquare-thanks! I do like that photo, but want to get some of my own. Sounds like a project for an upcoming weekend...

Have you tried any three-stone rings on in person?

I think that it is really a persoanl esthetic thing to pick a ring you want.

Shank width, height of stones, angle of side stones, tucked or spread, simple or swoopy basket. All things you can only really decide if you like if you see the elements in person.

For me, I am fairly certain I will be getting the W-Prong from whiteflash for my setting. It has a wider shank, 4 prongs on the sides, angled sides, not too tucked so good coverage. I'll likely be wearing it mostly with a plain band, and I like a wider comfort fit shank on my rings. It is also a very low set ring which I like and bands sit almost flush from the threads I have seen of the ring.

Ideally I would prefer three prong sides, and if I end up going custom I might change that about the w-prong because other than that it is perfect for my desires. But since I got a new ring for my baby gift, the reset will be waiting for my fifth anniversary next Spring, so I have a long time to decide!

I just made my final decision--I picked the BGD Truth 3 stone! Can't wait to see it in person soon!

Thanks for everyone's input!
