Hi there, I''m hoping someone can help me. I''ve been lucky enough to have inherited 2 lovely diamonds from my mother (both approx. 1 carat each). I''m planning on having one of them reset into my engagement ring. However, before deciding which stone to use, I''d like to have them appraised. I don''t believe that either one is of "super high" quality, so I don''t really feel that I need an extremely detailed appraisal. To be honest,I don''t really want to spend a ton of money on an appraisal either, since I didn''t purchase these stones and they are of more sentimental value than anything else (and I''m obviously not planning on returning either one to the store if they don''t appraise high enough!). I just want a basic idea of their quality. Can anyone recoomend someone who would be willing to do this?

I appreciate any advice, thank you!

Have you tried walking into a good jewelry store and explaining the situation and just asking for an opinion? If you''re looking for a detailed appraisal, there is of course Marty Haske over in Brookline, but if all you''re looking for is a quick brush over there should be a jeweler in your area who would be willing to tell you a little bit about the diamonds.

Thanks so much! I will definitely try this route. Once I''m solvent enough, I would love to get a really high quality gem and plan on having Marty Heske appraise it. Until then.... Shreve, Crump and Low is right around the corner from me and hopefully they will take a look at it.
