2 named storms again in the basin Sally was named after enough data was captured and, still keeps throwing wind and rain at us. We're getting 30kt winds in my local area with squall lines. (I took video its pretty impressive to see the sheets of rain as they rolled in) in between the intense wind and rain I'm trying to weed my yard. I haven't mowed in now 2 weeks, so its bad. This is why I'm so glad I don't have an HOA...lol

To see the recon data on Sally

I don't know how those folks do it, I'd be throwing up everywhere in that plane....lol

Stay safe. Thinking about you and sending good thoughts your way. All of us need a bit of a break.

We have flood warnings. Its raining and gusty and will be for the night. All good, wasn't going anywhere anyway  The worst of it is off Marco Island still. 11pm update will tell the tale about some lingering low pressure causing us some angst. NHC is being conservative with how they track this one but it could really go 2 ways at the moment.

I'm glad you're not seeing the worst of it, but that's too bad for Marco Island. We spent all but the first day and a half of our honeymoon there and absolutely loved it.

Stay safe @Arcadian ! ♥️
I hope they don’t ride up the East coast as I was just without power for days when the last one came through NY. :roll2:

The storm last night was intense for us in south FL. My kids all ended up with me!!!!

thanks AGAIN! Acadian.. we have good friends in the Keys and I always am aware of storms before I even read it.. Ty.

Take care! so sorry it's scary for the kids, I remember when I lived through Hurricane Fran up in NC, my older son (33) was 11 or so and he came into our room and said Mom!! there's a tree on the house so we told him to get out etc..2:00 a.m and all, he came in again and said Mom there is 2 trees on the house, so I got up and walked out into 2 trees on the house, wind howling - quite a mess, and it wasn't predicted to be that bad.. We were without electricity for over 3 weeks, we lost 20-30 trees, my heart and caring is with FEMA, FEMA was great and came around for a year taking all the wood that people had to come up, I think they said that NC lost millions of trees.. So my long story short, I am respectful and send you good vibes, be careful of course.

Have you talked to your friends today? The Keys got over 20 inches of rain so its bad raining, and east side is on dirty side. Last night constant rain, tornado warnings, flood warnings. rain/wind was intense!

This storm is creeping....so slow.

2 days from now its going to be bad in the Floribama, Alabama, Panhandle, Louisiana. If you're in those states be aware that this thing is moving really slow; super weak steering currents and this will come to a near standstill. Comparison to Katrina is being made because that was a very intense rain maker of a storm.

Even if it does not go beyond a cat 1, it will still be an extremely slow storm which drops lots of rain. thats usually the worst type of storm.

Hurricane Hunters will be doing a recon on Paulette

@whitewave are you going to be far enough out of Sally's way?

West or East side? I got woken up about 3amish it was pretty intense. One of my giant bird of paradise trees is tilting from all the water in the yard  I've got 4.

East side and very close to the water. In glad you and your family are OK!

I can’t even...

I am still cleaning up from Laura, and the front of my house is finally nearly back together and my plants are blooming again.

The very back of the yard is still stick haven and I’m going to have to take two trees down that are leaning heavily since the hurricane.

My DH always says its better that we have more (usually smaller ones) because it helps to keep the really big ones from building up.
Makes sense but I'm not really sure if its true or not.

@whitewave are you going to be far enough out of Sally's way?

The track jogged west this morning, so no. They are also saying cat 2+ at landfall so I have to recall some kids home again.

I don’t know if you can tell, but they are very much leaning to the left and it looks like they are coming up from the root pads. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind losing these trees and I have a farmer in my area who can come push them down with a tractor.

The left one has a giant nest in it (I think squirrel) so I would have to make sure it’s not baby time. Many friends found baby squirrels after Laura and are now raising them.

Good morning friends! Florida is still getting hit with a lot of stormy weather from Sally, but this time its mostly west coast. East coast is catching some stray showers still, thankfully not as much (and I did lose that BOP tree

The storm has not yet intensified, which is good , Its still slow moving and still a TS, so it can still cause damage. Next day or 2 is going to tell the story if upper and mid level lows stack (they are not stacked currently) Seeing storms do this and not die is really weird...thats now happend twice in the gulf!

Bermuda got a direct hit, just now coming out the other side this morning. I've been looking at the live videos from their goverment offices. They should be all clear by end of today.

Ugh, hoping those folks in Lousiana and Mississippi are getting prepared. Doesnt sound like the wind will be too bad
but as usual the storm surge (caused by the wind I assume) could be 2 feet.

By the end of the week we'll be at the end of the week we may be going greek. Sally is doing something weird right now and looks like it might be moving a bit more east.

Rene is a wall flower at this point, barely any movement at all. And Teddy is supposed to bump into Rene. lets hope they don't make babies...lol

Edit: Sally is now a cat 1 hurricane, that was quick. Jim Catore is flying to Louisiana...oh boy...

Your PSAs are wonderfully succinct & informative summaries, @Arcadian -- thanks ever so much for doing them, altho' I sure wish you had no reason to do so!!

@MollyMalone, I also wish there wasn't a need but well.... you can see why! Reality is that there's no where in the US that has non crazy weather. I've been through LOTs of it. by the same token, I will take a hurricane over a wildfire any day. Fire is frightening to me. I've only been through one, and that was enough. My heart aches for the folks in California.

Sally intensified within a short amount of time, like in between 10 and 11am EST, and there's discussion we could see a definite solid cat 2 hurricane by landfall (went from 60mph to 90 in less than an hour!!) Current speed is 7mph WNW her speed has slowed down because there's very little steering currents and a high over FL. Currently at 991MB's, which will make migraine suffers very unhappy.

Think of it as a lessor Dorian from last year, which sat there for 5 days and poured rain on the Bahamas because it had no highs to steer it anywhere. This won't be that slow but will take up to 48 hours to move over land. The biggest threat of any storm aside from wind is water, and you combine those over a prolonged period of time, you get a Katrina like situation.

lol need a little hurricane humor.
take anumber please.jpg

On a more serious note, Sally is now 100MPH, expected to get up to 110MPH and is at a near crawl at 6MPH.

And Sally continues to crawl ashore. 2MPH... The MB's are deepening which isn't a great sign, but the wind speeds have slowed some. still, its a enormous rain event thats currently pushing N. Florida Panhandle ended up back in the cone. it will eventually push east but its really bad out there (some of the video I've seen looks pretty bad.)

Sally is strenthening right now. Its a big wet mess stll. Jim Catore is in Pensacola I heard. And NHC has jokes...lol. its a long season

Lot of power outtages Alabama and in Florida Panhandle this morning. https://poweroutage.us/
Its not over, still super high winds and rain going on. will be that way all day today.

Storms eye came on shore at 4am this morning.

Also folks in Georgia need to be on watch, its headed that way (will be big sloppy mess)

Do we have any Psers in that area? Probably no electricity at this point. Hope all are ok. Check-in when you can.

Thanks for all the details @Arcadian

I'm sure a hurricane will be "assigned" to my area soon enough! Just hope they stay in the lower categories!

Watching Teddy, models keep moving it east and its supposed to be a major hurricane. Pensacola, Destin, very flooded. Downtown Pensacola is really really bad.

I'm seeing all the flooding on tv too.

We need some west winds to keep Teddy out to sea. At the moment it looks like the northeast coast could get hit? Wait and see, wait and see...
