My first colored stone project :)

Bought this tourmaline from Bob Kast, contacted Daniel M to get quotes for a simple setting. I am hoping to be able to bezel it up but we'll see how the pricing shakes out.

That's a lovely stone.

My concern would be that it might darken up too much if it was bezeled.

Thanks ladies. The light issues with a bezel is bothering me a little, but I am sick of prongs catching on things and scratching BF. Still, you have to let the stone dictate its own setting sometimes. I will keep thinking about it.

Clean cool and elegant is how i would describe that stone. A great first foray into the world of color. I wonder if you couldnt bezel it but still have the pavilion open on the sides?

Daniel M recommended against a bezel so I will be doing a basket. I am so excited!

See, I was thinking the same thing as VL... :))

The nice thing about loose stones is, now you have them and
can dream about the settings for as long as you can stand it...
I sometimes think I get more pleasure just looking at and playing
with my loose stones than I do enjoying the stones I have already set...
Weird.

Your Tourmaline is beautiful, I love Emerald cuts, and
I really love the way Bob Kast cuts a stone.
Now that I actually have some. :sun:

eta: Oh, I see you have decided on prong setting!
Good on you!
Daniel M is great and you will love your ring when it is done !!!!

I decided on the "double U" prong setting by Daniel M. I think it will really flatter this stone. :)

Pretty stone. I think it will look nice in his double u-prong setting.

It is finished! I can't post the vendor photos yet because I am on my phone but it looks nice. Dark though; glad I didn't bezel.

I saw it! It looks great!

I would agree. It's a bit too dark for a bezel. Nice clear sharp photos.

That came out beautiful!!! Great setting, lets in light & lets the beauty of the stone be front & center. Congratulations! If that's your first, we can expect to see some yummy goodies to come!

ooo Shiney, I feel the same way about my loose stones, lol! I love watching them in different lights & imagining various settings for them; it's almost more fun. Once they're set, they're lovely, but they are "only" rings -- before that I can imagine them as anything. Sort of embarrassing, but there it is.

Truthfully, I never even saw this stone loose in person; I saved on shipping by having Bob Kast send it directly to Daniel M. When my RHR diamond was loose, it made me so nervous to have such a tiny, valuable thing around!

Very nice! :appl: I've yet to work with Danial M (I get dinged being instate..ugh!) I love all of his work though!

Lovely ring! I've done that before too--had my stone sent directly to a vendor. Shipping stones that I've already fallen in love with freaks me out.

I am beyond happy :) this is my first emerald cut stone and I am loving step-cuts. The little diamond is my RHR with a 4 mm .25 carat I/I1 diamond.

The setting and design suits the tourmaline. It looks great on your hand.

Thank you Chrono! I am glad I listened to everyone and didn't bezel it. I am a little disappointed the prongs aren't identical but the price was very good and no one will ever notice but me

Another pic that shows those pretty steps.
