I asked this question about 7.5 years ago and am asking it again for any new or updated games or for new PSers who might have suggestions.

Specifically I am interested in games for two people.
There aren't that many board games for two.
The usual suspects of course.

Chess
Backgammon
Checkers
Card games
Scrabble
etc

I have googled this question and many suggestions come up but I prefer personal recommendations.
Can you please add some of your recommendations.
Thanks :)

Not a board game, but I've been doing a lot of puzzles with my partner the last couple years. Maybe they're competitive because we each take a side of the puzzle... lol

Not a board game, but me and my husband are Yahtzee fanatics! We play multiple games per week. Great for 2 people :)

we are monopoly fan's here...even if its 2 of us....

Jenga, so incredibly frustrating and fun!

Thanks for the recommendations.

Puzzles are a great idea. I haven't done a puzzle for decades. Maybe time to try again.
We like Jenga but yeah it is frustrating lol.
We enjoy monopoly but as Nicky wrote it is not as good with two people.
Thanks for the yahtzee reminder. We have that game in NYC and will pick it up next time we go back there.

Mainly we end up playing cards. I love cards. We play a game called May I. It's fun but best with more than 2 people though we enjoy it even with just the two of us. My parents used to play it with my grandparents. And we learned from them. The more people the harder it is.

Our Christmas gifts to ourselves this year.
In the past we did 5000pc puzzles that covered our dining room table.

THose are beautiful and ambitious! I think I'd take a month to finish one of those :P2

My family loves May I!

DH and I like playing Blokus quite a bit
Some others:
- Indigo
- Othello
- Carcassone
- Ticket to Ride
- Labyrinth
- Battleship

A favorite from my childhood that I still enjoy playing, and that my kids like too, is Enchanted Forest.

7 Wonders Duel is made for two players only and is super fun. (Make sure to get the version called Duel). Keep the rules in hand as you play, as it takes a couple of rounds to understand how it works. But when you both understand the rules it is so, so fun.

Lost Cities is also fun and designed for two players. A little simpler to play than 7 wonders duel.

I have a third board game I like made for two on the tip of my tongue but can’t remember. Will have to write back later.

Also, re: ticket to ride suggestion above. The Scandinavian version is designed for 2-3 players. It brings my competitive spirit (usually dormant ) out voraciously, where as the US map version and Europe for which are designed for more players aren’t quite as maddening. The Scandinavian map is a little harder. But it requires fewer players. So check which version you choose.

This is interesting... you had me second-guessing because we have the US version (North America). I just double-checked and it is for 2-5 players. I have played it successfully with just two of us. I wonder if the copyright year has anything to do with this? Ours indicates a copyright of 2004.

@missy we also love puzzles as @cflutist suggested. Every holiday I get each of my kids and DH a puzzle. This year I also got a portable puzzle board (link below). It was a huge hit! One 1000 piece puzzle was opened this morning and is already completed. Two people were able to work on the puzzle more easily than usual thanks to the board. Also, no pieces were lost or went rogue for a time, and it made sorting easy and boarder shifting a thing of the past.

I love playing cribbage with my son.

OMG I haven't met anyone else that loves May I or even heard of it. It's a great game. Thanks for the other recommendations.

Thank you. I will check it out!

Thanks. I have heard of it but never played. Will explore this option, thanks.

it takes some learning time. Quilts and cats.

Hi Missy,

I second 7 wonders Duel. I’m not a board game person but I love it! I especially love beating my husband….
