Hi there, I saw one of your posts and thought I''d ask how your "NJ Suburb" search was going or if you''d narrowed your choices at all?

We did look at Westfield and Chatham which we really liked. Kind of hard to get motivated to go out there again and look more/make some appts though. Not a good sign in terms of adjusting to the commute

Hi Janinegirly! I never realized how stressful moving to the ''burbs would be until we started to look. I THINK Westfield is a front runner for us - we love the town (which might make the transition of moving from the city the ''burbs a bit easier since there are lots of stores and restaurants, etc), but I must say that it''s hard for me to get used to not having a large property.

Dani gave us some advice and mentioned looking in Somerset which we did, but the commute would definitely be longer. However, I like the size of the houses and properties for the price. At some point we will drive to Princeton and look around that area too, but again, it''s far.

Glad to hear that it''s not just us who are having trouble deciding. My co-worker lived in the city with her husband and moved to Westfield - she raves about it and said it did take some getting used to esp. after living in the city for so many years, but she''s sort of been my inspiration and I''ve been taking her advice.

When do you think you''ll be officially taking the plunge and....

*bump*

hi blushing,

thanks for bumping. I hear you on this not being so easy. I think Westfield is a great town, I liked all the stores and felt like it had some buzz. The only thing is the commute's a little annoying since you have to switch in Newark (if you go to NY Penn). So we're still exploring some nearby towns.
I've just never lived in the suburbs so for me I"m worried that I'll get there and feel weird. On the other hand, we can't really settle in our little apt in NYC and the prices for anything of decent size are absurd. So kinda stuck and realize the suburbs are the best option, but also not really motivated to start the real search (realtors, actual houses). Our timeline is to look more seriously in the spring..maybe move by late summer. We'll see!

Keep me posted on your search/plan!

I hear ya - I have never lived outside the city. I grew up in the suburbs of Pennsylvania so, I''m used to having large properties and big houses all around. I always invisioned that type of lifestyle....then Manhattan sucked me in and now I''m stuck. DH and I love our jobs so, we plan on working here for a while, but it IS really frustrating when you see what all your hard earned dollars gets you around here. What other towns did you like? We liked Chatam, Summit, Bernardsville, Warren and Westfield...the commute will be something to get used to that''s for sure. Keep me posted too!
