Does anyone know if this Blue Nile setting is a standard; and if is can be bought else where? I really like it, but I can not find any diamond in my price range (with the quailty I want) on Blue Nile''s website. I know that they''re more expensive normally...but I have a $100 coupon, and an additional 4.5% off (ebates+wire).

I''ve talked to people about having one like it made. However, when it comes down to the discount, the custom jobs won''t be a value.

Yes, that set is a lot like it. In fact, that's the original set I wanted. However, the cost of that setting doesn't make it worth it. The Blue Nile setting is a way better deal (1ct total weight on both rings in platinum for $2700 + discount).

Try www.tradeshop.com - they have a lot of settings that look similar.

shibbel,

I'm a Marketing Manager at Blue Nile wanted to let you know that your $100 off coupon is probably no longer valid. I know that its a factor in making your purchase decision and wanted to try and head off any potential issues before you tried to make your purchase.

Also, with several of Ebates' merchants (including Blue Nile), you cannot use a coupon like this and get your reward. They have language in their FAQs outlining this.

Happy shopping and I hope you find exactly what you're looking for.

Technically, 3.7%

I don't know for sure that the coupon isn't valid, I just don't want to have a potential customer be disappointed upon checkout. I know shopping for a diamond is a time-consuming effort, and while we would love to have you as a customer shibbel, the last thing I want is for you to feel misled.

I can definitely verify that the ebates discount will not be awarded with the use of a coupon though.

Again, I hope you find just what you're looking for, if not at Blue Nile, through one of the other fine merchants here at PriceScope.

Thanks
John

Wow, a face for BN here on PS. Welcome John!

Thanks for the warm welcome Derek, hope its cooling off down there

Hi John, welcome. Don't be a stranger

Let me chime in here as an internet marketing/ecommerce person and say that if I were marketing @ Blue Nile...I would offer to honor the $100 coupon on what would be a multi-thousand dollar sale. Customer loyalty can move mountains.

My two cents...

Let me chine in next to Mara as a cheap bargain hunter on the internet...I too think you should honor it, as great customer service is essential.

Considering this is a diamond discussion forum, we are indeed very glad to have someone from BlueNile here, so don't let our "get a good deal" tactics bug you...

We like quality diamonds, wherever they are, especially if they have reputable and trustowrthy people selling them!

Plus, it's always nice to hear from people in the trade to perhaps lend us some knowledge. Welcome John!!!

Thanks for your thoughts Mara. As I stated before, I'm not even sure if the coupon is valid or not, I just wanted to try and let shibbel know up front that there may be an issue upon checkout.

We have a number of customers who use discounts they find on coupon sites that also attempt to collect a rebate through ebates.com, upromise.com or other rewards sites. These sites will not pay the user on these transactions and I'd prefer to try and set a realistic expectation up front when I can. It saves us, our partners, and our customers time and frustration in the long run.

Thanks NicRez.

I'm not a diamond buyer nor a salesperson. I won't claim to be a diamond expert and I don't have anything but nice things to say about the vast majority of the community here. I think Leonid provides a fantastic forum for those who want to share their knowledge and those who are seeking it.

That being said, I know everyone here has the same goal in mind, and thats to educate people so that when they decide to buy a diamond, that the experience is an empowering one, leaving them with a stone that they truly love and feel good about. I like to think that Blue Nile has done a lot for everyone here, and while we may take the occasional smacking around on this board, I know that the big picture is that Blue Nile has helped to legitimize this industry of selling diamonds online and we're all better off for it.

Thanks again!
John

I checked the coupon, and yes, it does work. And I would hope so, since Blue Nile just sent me the coupon code 2 days ago. In any case though, Tony from Uniondiamond.com offered to make a setting exactly like it for a much better price.

That also opens up my options for a diamond I would like. Although, everytime I find a diamond I like on pricescope, it's sold

John just kidding, we know you don’t own the business and can only do what you can do

This is one of the luxuries of owning a business and being here on Price scope. You can make the call on the spot to give the diamond away or let the sale go! I’ve lost money on a diamond once to keep the customer or keep my word.

Our business is by appointment only. I had a customer of mine call me from Iraq ! He wanted to schedule an appointment when he comes back to get his wife something. I told him to be careful, I didn’t want to lose a customer.

I had one High school kid that I treated like a million bucks. He keep my business card for 12 years! At the age of 28 he was well off and ready to get married and called me

I guess what I’m saying is when a customer comes in here he is teated like family, I learn more about his family and what he wants before I figure out what he has in his pocket.

Not saying big business is cold. But there is something to say about Mom and Pop stores. I’m in the Midwest and that’s kind of how we are here. I’ve kept my business small to keep the way I do business working. I don’t want to get to the point were I have no personal contact with the customer and my help does all the work.

I guess this is a long way around to explain a point on how I do business.

Its all how you want to run a business, no way is right or wrong.

I love selling diamonds, it gave me more wealth and enjoyment then I could have ever wanted.

That's a gorgeous, classic setting. Wherever you end up buying it from, I say go for it.

Corey, I completely understand and I am sure that you have a terrific business full of loyal customers. There's certainly room for everyone in this business and we all have different models. Mom and Pop stores will always have a place and be successful because of the very things you brought up. From reading your posts, I know that you do quite well and I'm happy for you that your business affords you the luxurious lifestyle that you lead.

Have a great week and keep up the good work

yay shibbel, custom made settings are always so much more fun and personal. plus now you have more options for finding a stone.

BN can sometimes seem more pricey than other vendors...that $100 off will easily be found as a discount and most likely more with another vendor. one that gives crown and pav angles, idealscope images, etc on their stones. have fun!
