Blue Nile Upgrade and Price Match Program

I received an email today from BN that said it had "New Diamond Programs." Anyway, not sure if they are truly new, but I don't recall discussion on PS regarding them. There are two:

- Upgrade policy which appears to be inclusive of diamonds outside their Signature Ideals (which I believe was the scope of their program previously)

- Price match program: seems you call with specs of a diamond from another vendor and they may match the price on a similar diamond

Well, that is nice to know. I wish you didnt have to spend double the amount you spent on your first stone...that might make
an upgrade out of the question for a lot of people but might work well on smaller stones.

Well...it doesn't affect me, and I spent what I consider a substantial amount with Blue Nile on a diamond that is still in pristine condition (as is its cert) a few years back. No matter how much I spend on a new stone, no upgrade policies affect any of the diamonds I ever bought. I can either resell my non-ideal stones to professionals who want to recut them since they are high color and clarity or sell the non-ideal and ideal ones to fellow consumers on my own or I can keep them! So far, I'm keeping everything!

Nice to know. The spending double to upgrade is rough if you bought an expensive diamond to begin with... Although with rising prices a small upgrade might cost you double depending when you purchased...

We were able to get them to price match in Oct. and saved a couple hundred dollars.

The downside to the upgrade policies of all the vendors is that you can only get your purchase price in credit. So if you paid $5000 for a stone that would sell for $7000 now, you'd still only get the $5000. I think in the case of super-ideals I'd try to sell it first for a little more than the $5000. I've already sold 2 stones that I bought in 2010 for more than I paid.
