My brother bought his wife a 1.60ish round Blue Nile Signature back in Feb. 2003 and it''s stunning!!

Hi Mark and welcome.

It is very hard to buy an emerald cut on paper without aids such as photos of the actual diamond, Idealscope Images and ASET too, otherwise it is really a guess as to how the diamond is likely to look and perform unfortunately. I know the Sig Ideal in rounds are normally good performers, but EC''s are a different kettle of fish and aren''t as predictable by the numbers. Also do you know what qualifies an EC for their Signature Ideal title? Fancy shapes don''t as yet really have a set of numbers that you can safely use to assume that a diamond will be a great performer.

BN do have a great return policy, so you could always return the diamond if you don''t like it.

Lorelei,

Great catch for what the reader was asking for (an EC) and the implication of same. It makes our subscription fee to PS worth it, doesn''t it?

I think Lorelei''s point is right on. Ask BN what criteria they use to make either ideal or signature idea for their ECs. If they tell you (as they may) it must meet criteria associated with data for angles & such...the wisdom here is to choose another vendor. The good thing about signature options is that they ARE looked at. But...if the first application is based on selection from data...another vendor may be best.

Analysis to include use of ASET for reflector technology, for example, is recommended here. Note...there are other established and useful guidelines...but for optical performance to be optimized...you want to do more than that.

GOG, among others, has a good reputation for fancies.
