Hi

I am new here and found this site today.

I am looking at blue nile for an ering. I have attached a picture from the GIA report. please let me know if it is a good buy. I am looking at more sparkle.

specs:

1.28-Carat Round Diamond
This Ideal-cut, F-color, and SI2-clarity diamond comes accompanied by a diamond grading report from the GIA.

please see attachment.

thank you so much. :-)

My only concern is the clarity.....i would try to get out of the SI range and you could also lower the color to h/i/.....

Also, your HCA is 2.7....I am all about the Sparkle and would try to get a stone under 2.0

The HCA scores on those two stones aren''t spectacular. Is there a reason to stick with BN or would you be open to stones from other vendors?

sorry.
how do you find the HCA score?

You can use this tool (also at the top right there under "tools") to calculate it. It's more of a weeding out tool but it gives a general assessment of cut. Under 2 is good, over 2 can be ok, but takes a more experienced eye.

It looks like BN stock a bunch of stones that have a 60% depth and 60% table; these stones score poorly on the HCA but some people like the look. If you search for 60/60 you can learn more about that.

Also many PSers prefer not to purchase from BN because they 1. don't have most of their stones in house, they can't look at an SI1 and tell you if it's eye-clean and 2. they don't have a trade-up policy.

Good luck!

ETA: And a belated Welcome!

The HCA is the Holloway Cut Adviser and it can be found under the tools menu at the top of the page.

Not super loving either one. If you want we would be happy to help you find a stone if you give budget and your desired parameters. If you prefer to do it on your own, try starting with the knowledge button at the top and reading the tutorials - they can be very helpful. If you do go with an SI stone, be sure to ask BN if it is eyeclean (they CAN get that info for you, even if they don''t have the stone with them at the time - they will put a stone on hold while they find out for you), and when asking about eyeclean, be SURE to be specific about YOUR definition of eyeclean, AND the definition by the person you are talking to! BN does have a good return policy.

thank you for your post.

I have a budget between 6000-7000k.
I want it to sparkle as much as possible.

The ring should be a round ring.
Cut should be Ideal
Color in the range of F-H
Clarity? I''m thinking a SI1 but, if possible, can be VS1.
Carat? I want something over 1.05...

Please post some links. very much appreciated.

I hope 6k-7k is possible.

thanks again.

preferrable to be at blue nile site because i like their return policy and 10% discount when using a visa card.

thank you.

what do you think about this one?

will the feather, crystal, cloud, needle, shown on the picture affect the sparkle?
how about the clouds that are not shown?

thank you so much for this! i really appreciate your time and expertise. :-)

The one you posted is si2 - is that ok with you?

Also are you wanting to maximize size as long as it is eyeclean?

That''s the same as the first BN I posted. It''s smack in the middle of the AGS ideal range, so it should be a good stone. They''re all in the SI range, so you''ll have to call and ask if they''re eye-clean; the inclusions are hard to judge online.

Nice pick!

yes to both your questions.
maximize as long as it''s eye clean

thank you!

Wait, did I just post the same one you and Mercoledi did? Great minds...!!!

The reason I usually prefer AGS0 stones from BN is because GIA rounds their #s, so they are slightly less precise than AGS and so if dealing with stones that you are not going to be able to see an idealscope image on prior to purchase, the AGS with a ''0'' for light performance means it has been light performance evaluated so eliminates some of the uncertainty and decreases the risk that you will be unhappy with the stone and need to send it back.

WOW!!! thank you so much. if i could i would treat you guys out to dinner or something! :-)

so i have narrowed it down to three candidates.
let me hear your thoughts

I like the AGS 1.07 because it inscribes the AGS# on the girdle. it gives me a sense of security and authencity.

but do you know how small apart is 1.07 to 1.24? is it significant? thanks :-)

We just purchased a signature ideal from blue nile because I wanted sparkle over anything else. According to blue nile, the signature ideals are eye clean and only go as low as SI1 clarity. I plugged the numbers into HCA and got a score of 0.9. It is very sparkly and so bright if that makes any sence. It''s .92 carats and cost $6,500. I have to say I think it looks bigger than the stated carat weight but it also rated very good spread in addition to excellent light return and excellent scintilation per HCA.

I like the stones with AGS reports.

The visual difference between 1.07 and 1.24 would be fairly obvious to me. I wouldn''t pick a smaller stone just because it was laser inscribed. The whole "switching out of stones" is pretty much a myth anyway as long as you deal with decent jewelers.
