Hi Everyone.

I am looking for a dimond for engagement. I had been searching for two month, and I finally found the diamond with the specs that I wanted on Blue Nile. It is a blue nile signature ideal cut.

1.11 Carat Round
Cut: AGS Ideal
Color D
VS2
Depth: 60.6%
Table: 56.4%
Crown angle: 34.2%
Pavillion angle: 40.7%
Symmetry/Polish: ID/ID
Culet: very small (0.6%)
Girdle: thin to slightly thick, faceted
Fluoresence: Negligible
$10,376 USD

I do not know what I should feel about the price. Any comment regarding if this is a good diamond? Any comment on brilliance and fire? Am I getting a good deal or paying a high price?

Thank You,

Mark

By the numbers......it looks like a Great Diamond and the price seems to be very good. Your eyes will tell you when you see it!!

My only concern with Blue Nile is that they do not have a lifetime upgrade policy, but if this does not concern you, then buy the diamond.

It looks like you made a very pretty choice. It will have a nice balance of brilliance and fire based on the HCA score of TIC 0.8
The price also looks fair for a D VS2 in that size. I think you''ll be pleased.

The numbers look great, but you should keep in mind that BN does not have an upgrade policy if that''s important to you.

Thank you everyone.

I was little bit worried about the diamond comparing to its price.

By the way, what is a lifetime upgrade policy?

Sorry about the newbie question.

lifetime upgrade policy is where you can trade in your diamond from the place you bought it for the price you paid for it and get a bigger more expensive diamond and you only have to pay the difference. BN does not have this, but Whiteflash, goodoldgold, and james allen do. Without this, you will have to loose a lot of money through consignment (often 50% of what you paid) if you someday change your mind and want a different shape stone or a bigger stone, or whatever...

It means that if your future fiance ever wants to upgrade her diamond she can go into the same company and trade in her diamond for a better one. She can upgrade the clarity, size, color...whatever, as long as you spend more than what you paid for the original diamond.

If I were you I would definitely look into it...
but if she is like me and wouldn''t think of upgrading due to sentimental reasons, than you might be fine without an upgrade policy.

Hi Mark,

Lifetime upgrade policy means that the company that you purchased your diamond from will give the amount you paid for your diamond (provided everything is ok with diamond and documentation) for you to upgrade your diamond to a larger one. Check with each vendor upgrade policy as they differ from vendor to vendor

Example: You buy a 1.11 ct from a vendor with an upgrade policy and you pay $11,000 for it. Two years later, you decide to upgrade the diamond for a 1.5 ct for $15,000. You trade in your 1.11 ct and they give you 11,000 credit for it and you pay only the remaining balance of $4000 to get a bigger stone.

You get a 30d return policy, so if you don''t like it you can return it. #s look good.

Thanks again for the inputs.

I think I will pass on upgrading the diamond, because it will be our engagement diamond. If she wants something bigger later on, then I guess I will have to get a second job, and buy her a bigger diamond.

I was just looking on James Allen, and found a 1.20 carat diamond with the same cut, color, and clarity grade for $100 more. However, on the clarity chart, there seems to be a natural indented on the edge of the diamond.

Are natural indents visable without the 10x scope? Do they have affects on brilliance and fire? I know that they should decrease the worth of the diamond, but is the decrease significant?
