Blue fluor - where and how often do you see it?

Hi all,

I have a few questions for the blue owners. Now that you have your beautiful stone set and have worn it for a while. From what you observed,

1) at what places / occasssions would you see the fluor?
2) how often do you actually see it?
3) on Brian Gavin's site there is a photo of neon blue diamonds under strong UV. i always wonder if the disco or acquariums have equally strong (even stronger??) UV / backlight that would make the stone turn neon blue. Does your even glow like those on BG site?

Thanks

It depends on how much fluorescence your stone has. Medium and lower only under blacklight, in disco etc. Strong and Very Strong will glow in direct sunlight too.

Mine is technically only medium but my stone still turns a very pretty, really light shade of blue in direct sunlight. It is an I. And in non-direct sunlight (or under fluorescent office lights, etc), it looks really really white - I think the fluoro really does cancel out the "yellow" (as they say). I love my ring :)

Mine is SB as well - I notice it in direct sunlight the most obviously, but I can see it in in indirect sunlight and of course under blacklights. It is an awesome effect!

The ring that I wear has 2 stones with strong blue and one with yellow and I don't see anything unless I put it under an ultraviolet light.

Same here...I have had a med blue and a strong blue and never see it without a UV light.

In fact, I have forgotten that I have a MB stone because I just never notice the fluor.

From comments and photos, looks like the blue is more obvious on SB and VSB stones.

Mine is graded Medium Blue, but has also been called Strong by a few appraisers. Its pretty damn blue under a UV/Blacklight.

1) I see it in strong sun, as well as sometimes under the flash of my work digital (weirdest thing ever...). Also under blacklight. Otherwise it's just a glowing ball of whiteness.

2) 50/50 in sun, if Im paying attention. Always under blacklights.

3) Yes.

ok, took my earrings for close inspection under pretty strong sunlight today. THey are F no fluor and G MB. I couldn't tell them apart. No sign of blue, just nice sparkles :D

In my experience location and time of year can influence how much blue tint I see in my I with strong blue fluorescence in sunlight. In Los Angeles it only shows a blue tint in sunlight in the summer. In San Diego and Florida it shows a blue tint in sunlight year round.

I just got my GIA cert H SI1 Medium Blue diamond set. It's noticeably blue under the Hawaiian noon-time summer sun, but (to make my answer vaguer) my Hawaiian diamond vendor compared my diamond and a non-fluorescent H VS2 diamond for me at around 11am and 3pm and said they were both slightly blue.

FYI, my guess is that since HI so more south than the mainland US, we get more UV since we're closer to the equator.

I would use it as indicator for reapplying sun screen lol

Blue sky reflection if the non-fluorescent stone is blue, too!

My current and former stone both have MB fluor, and I've never seen it in either other than under a black light.

My stone does look blue-ish in direct sunlight now and then, but I've decided that must be reflection from the blue sky because my sister's stone also looked blue-ish in the same conditions, and hers doesn't have any fluor.

I did get some crazy shots of my original stone where it looked like it was glowing from inside one day. I have no idea what that was, the fluor or something else. But it made for great pictures!
