It sucks that that room looks miserable to me. As in, while I love kitties, but I''m terribly allergic to them.

Thanks for letting me know how the process works, Haven! I can imagine how rewarding volunteering at a shelter is, and it is something I''d like to get involved with. I''ll have to look into it in my area.

OMG Haven - that does look like heaven to me, what sweetie pies

DH and I are really missing our volunteer time at the shelter in San Francisco since we moved - we just haven''t found a place to do that here in Houston yet (but hope to soon!).

I''ll keep my fingers crossed you can win your DH over on Olivia. My mom took in (at my behest) a similar situation - a 10-year-old toy fox terrier with skin cancer, with an unknown prognosis, so she could live out whatever time she had left in comfort and with a home of her own. Diana had 15 amazing months with my mom and the rest of our family loving and spoiling her. Even though putting her down was one of the hardest things my mom and I have had to do, I wouldn''t trade that time we had with her for the world. Bless you.

Haven,

Where is this shelter at?

My DH and I talk about getting Boo a brother or sister, and although I love and adore my purebred Ragdoll, I know if we get a second cat, we should adopt from our local shelter. But it makes me really nervous because I''m so afraid of getting a pet with some potentially contagious illness that s/he could pass to Boo. I would just die if that happened.

In our shelter, cats are caged

which makes me sad. But in a shelter like yours, couldn''t one cat with FeLV or FIV pass it to the whole ROOM of cats? Oh, that thought makes me so sad and so nervous.

Lynn - I ADORE the idea of a brother or sister for little Boo!!

Especially seeing how my Ollie is with his sisters - particularly Gretchen - I think he would be lost without her, they are so sweet together

I''d ditto Haven that any responsible shelter will thoroughly test their animals before ever making them available for adoption or exposing them to other kitties, and that extra testing at the vet before bringing a new kitty home isn''t a bad idea either - always better to have that 100% peace of mind (we had Ollie tested before we brought him home).

You are so thoughtful and kind.

Just looking at those pictures is making me sneeze! Lol. I did my shelter volunteer training in the "cat room" and sneezed the entire time. Kitties just aren''t for me.

Now a room full of dogs ... I could get into that!

I hope you and your DH adopt sweet Olivia! She absolutely deserves to have a loving home for the few months she has left.

You and your DH are doing such a wonderful thing, giving those lovely kitties cuddles and love and attention

They look so happy to have you there
