Hello everyone, I've asked for opinions on several diamonds now and I REALLY appreciate all the good info I've gotten....please bear with me, here's one more... in the interests of impartiality I'm not going to post color or size (I spose that won't really make much difference to people), but let me know what you think!

Stone 1:

Depth: 61.9
Table: 56.1
Crown Angle: 34.9
Crown %: 15.3
Pavilion Angle: 40.8
Pavilion %: 43.1
Girdle: Thin to Medium Faceted
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Culet: Pointed
Fluorescence: Negligible
Measurements: 7.45-7.49X4.62

Actually now I think about it I would like opinions against a stone I posted previously, so I guess I better fill in all the relevant details - SORRY people for my messing around! The above stone is a K VS2, 1.59.

The other stone I was looking at is this one:

Stone 2:

Carat Weight: 1.44ct
Color: J
Clarity: VS2
AGS Cut Grade: Ideal*
GIA Cut Grade: Excellent*
Optical Symmetry: Ideal
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: Negligible
Width: 7.23mm
Length: 7.28mm
Depth: 4.51mm
Table Percentage: 53.92%
Depth Percentage: 62.16%
Crown ?: 34.05°
Pavilion ?: 40.89°
Upper Girdle ?: 42.15°
Lower Girdle ?: 42.19°

This is the IS for STONE 1:

Well, I prefer the numbers and the diameter on #1, but I prefer the color of #2.

Have you looked at well-cut Ks in person? If you have and you like the way they look, I''d go with #1. If it''s a bit warm for you, #2 is a fine choice also.

ditto for me too.

Thanks for your opinions..I''ve never seen a K... I''ve seen a J and couldn''t tell it from an I or H face up. Side on I could immediately. I think I want diameter more than I care about the color. I guess I always have the return period anyway if I don''t like it.

I thought you were bezel setting in yellow gold?

I like stone 2..
its right at my prefered angles and looks kicken.

Hi Julie, why? does that make a difference? I was thinking of bezel in platinum with two tone yg on the shank, or tension in a matte yellow. Will the lower color look bad in yellow? I thought it would be okay... help!

strmrdr....why???? please enlighten me... to my uneducated eye the IS''s look the same to me. Can you point out any differences that would help me understand why stone 2 looks better to you? or is it just the angles that you like. ANy hints on what those angles do to the performance of stone2 i.e. how it looks? sorry if I"m being annoying, it''s hard doing this for the first time.

Thanks, a

second one has the looks and angles of a gog classic which is what I bought for my wifey2b.
Its my prefered formula the other one isnt by any means bad but If I was buying it would be the second one cut wise.
add in J over K and its no contest.

My $0.02: both stones' proportions look great. There might be tiny difference because of the table size and crown angle. Only you would be able to tell whether you see any difference and which one you prefer.

Total Price:
#1 $8,090.00
#2 $7,767.68

Price per Carat:
#1 $5,088
#2 $5,394

Discount from Rapaport (stone #1 is over 1.5 carat = higher per carat price. However, 1.25+ brings 5%-10% premium over 1.0 ct)
#1 6.0% above Rap
#2 6.6% above Rap (considering 10% premium for over 1.25ct)

I think both stones are cut and priced very close. The choice is down to your preference of the carat-(diameter)-color-price combination.

More details you will get from an expert evaluating the real stones.

good luck

Wanted to add if the color difference went the other way then Id go with the other diamond.

Wow thanks everyone for the good info. I have to say it''s really hard to know which way to go. I wish jewelers had a stock set of stones in 1ct size in all the colors (well D-K) so I could go and have a look to guage the differences for myself (they could just be fake!) I really have no idea what a K looks like. I''m just drawn to the size.

But then I think... should I go back up to a GH and just get a smaller stone??? arrggghhhh it''s so hard to decide on such little firsthand information. And I feel bad if I go to a B&M and take up their time looking if I think I"m might just buy off the internet.

Anyway thanks so much everyone you''ve given me lots more to think about. I might just get the K and see for myself. It''s a bit of a pain sending it back and waiting for a refund but at least then I will know first hand what a K looks like. And I might love it!

Thanks for listening to my rambles

pretty much yes....if they were the same color then id likely go with the GOG stone on cut but the color issue nails it.

In that size range I''m not sure Id even go down as far as J for myself or my wifey2b .. under a ct J is fine with me but im not 100% that thrilled with it over 1ct but every ones eyes are different.

Hmmmm...more thought required methinks. I think I''m just getting greedy here :)) I might go back and look at the H-I range. You know I started out looking at .3-.5ct!!! and look where I''ve ended up!

like the first ACA and the GOG diamond out of those 3.

and there pretty close.. the WF diamond with discount is a hair cheaper but the GOG diamond is a hair bigger.
tough choice...

Thank you... I think I agree. I just really like all the info that GOG has too. I gotta really work out my tolerances I think for color before I bother you people again! oh and my money tolerances...$3k more and I think there''s some nice 1.5ct, I, VS''s to be had! but where does it all end... I''m hopeless at making up my mind

Oh I didn''t see your last post... how did I miss that one! arrggghhh.... how to decide. I really wish I could just see them in person. I think I''ll be dreaming about IS''s tonight..that''s a bit sad, ha!

oh and don''t forget the one at my B&M with the 52% table... I think I''ll go look at that one again tomorrow

Have you read the GOG color tutorial on their website closely? It''s fantastic.

I have, it is very good. That''s what made me think a K might be alright as I had trouble distinguishing the colors from each other! Bear in mind that I''m nearly 43 and eye-sights going downhill!

Out of the K/VS2 and J/VS2 you posted above, I would pick the K/VS2 for the numbers. I don''t like the depth on the J/VS2. You should take a look at some well-cut K''s in person, though.

For your second set, I like the second ACA, the one with 60.7 depth. I like the numbers on that one the most, and the I/VS2 combination is a good one. However, I agree with Storm that if the 1.20 I/SI1 is eye-clean, definitely go for that one. It''s only $6270 with the PS discount, and you don''t have to compromise on color. Great numbers, and the IS image is excellent.
