I have posted on here a couple times, thanks to everyone for your all your input. I decided to raise my flexible budget to go for a diamond from the BGD Blue line. What do you think of this diamond? Honest opinions please, I haven't wired the money just yet, haha!

Now, I would love some input for settings, I need to have my final choice in to BGD within a couple days so they can get this project rolling. I want a simple solitaire setting that is low profile, I love the look of double claw prongs but really my only specification is a low profile setting. I am leaning towards the BGD Elegance or Split Prong Grace but I absolutely LOVE the Sierra from Whiteflash and am considering having it custom made from BGD - is this a good idea? Has anyone had a custom setting from them? Also, platinum or white gold?? Is this risky with an I colour diamond? Opinions would be greatly appreciated as I'm kind of on a time crunch, I hope you guys like the diamond I picked, I really do!!

Well, I absolutely think you made a terrific choice! I have a strong blue, too, and love it! Platinum will be excellent! Let me go look at settings. Be right back!

Okay, of Brian Gavin's 4 prong solitaire settings, I like the Truth and the Novella Patientia for you:

The problem with the Grace is that the shank is quite low, which can make it hard to pair certain diamond wedding bands with it. I would not consider having a solitaire custom made when BG has a beautiful selection. I love their classic Tiffany 6 prong settings as well.

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

I am looking for just a comfort platinum band that matches the width of the setting I choose, if that helps at all. What do you think of the Elegance? Of the two you posted I definitely prefer the Truth, I was considering that setting as well. What do you think of the Elegance? They said they could do split claw prongs on both the Elegance and the Truth if I wanted, it would just cost a little extra.

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

I ADORE the Elegance!! It's is my favorite cathedral solitaire. I think that with that fabulous 2 carat center that setting would just be out of this world.

I think I would leave the wedding band choice to your lady, she might want something with a little sparkle and may not what the width's to match. BUT the Elegance is flexible enough to allow for any option she can think of for her band.

They can alter the prongs however you want them to, each setting is made to order. Also if you have your heart set on a perfectly matching all metal band just ask them to make on at the same time. But if it were me and I was surprising my lady with a matching band I'd get a brightcut pave 3/4 eternity matching band instead of metal only.

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

You mean you "BLUE" your budget!!! Oh love that strong blue fluorescence, don't think you will regret it.

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

Your diamond is beautiful! I actually love all the setting choices that have been suggested, so I'm no help there, I also agree that it would be a good idea to allow your finance to choose her own wedding band, or I really like Gypsys suggestion of going with pave band that will look fantastic!! :lickout:

Love your stone!! Wow!

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

That stone is awesome! You did a great job! I agree with Gypsy about the band. I know I'd want a bit of input on that and your fiancee may feel the same way. If she wants a solid metal band, you can always have Brian make one later.

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

I love the elegance setting

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

That is about the best idealscope image I have ever seen! Great looking stone, wow!

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

Whatta rock! CONGRATS! I'm not familiar with their settings but it would be hard to go too wrong as long as that stone is involved!

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

I respect your opinions a lot and thank you so much for posting! I have decided to go with a custom setting combination of a few different BGD settings. It will be the Elegance cathedral setting with a 3 mm tapered shank with a combination of the Truth head with the Split Grace prongs. The person I've been dealing with at BGD said she thinks it will look great and I completely agree. What do you guys think? Am I making a mistake by trying to modify the Elegance? I think I like the open basket concept where the girdle is not hidden like in the Truth, any opinions on this thought?

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

I think it will look great but I personally prefer the elegance basket. Also I prefer a 2.5 mm width.

Can't wait to see it

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

It is a tapered cathedral so it tapers to slightly below 2.5 near the stone, the Elegance is 2.8 mm width at the bottom so I only added a tiny bit of thickness, I hope it turns out ok! I feel like a crazy person for messing around with such perfect settings but I just wanted to get all the details exact. Should be here in 3 weeks or so, can't wait to see it in person, I hope it looks like what I am picturing in my head!

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

Please post pictures when it's finished!

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

Oh My! That sounds like it will be a GORGEOUS custom piece - its like you are combining the 'best of all worlds' into that one setting - can't wait to see it!!!

3 weeks will fly by quickly - until the day they email you photos and that is been shipped. Those will be the longest 24 hours you've spent!

OMG. I cannot wait to see this.

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

This is the final CAD - decided to have a custom head like the "Sierra" from WF as I didn't like the way double prongs fit with the "Truth" head. The Truth setting is just so magnificent on it's own so I decided to combine the "Elegance" shank with Brian's version of the "Sierra". I love the way it turned out, Denise said that the ring is about 15% thicker than it will be due to casting and then they shave it down after completion, the final width will be 3 mm with it tapering to 1.9 mm near the stone. Before they start production, any last minute objections? It's for a size 6.25-6.5 finger, should look great, right?

I don't know how to remove the name from the CAD, I hope this doesn't get me reported or something!

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

That looks amazing! I REALLY adore the head you chose! Only thing is... the Elegance has a comfort fit shank, this one will too right? I just much prefer that for the feel between my fingers over a shank that is too squared, but I'm pretty sure that impression is just the wax.

Also I know the Elegance has a donut, and this one does too. Are you sure she doesn't want a flush fit band, and she'll be okay with the gap? If you want flush fit it would be a fairly simple modification (get rid of the donut).

Just two little points to consider.

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

It's going to be amazing!!!! I love that solitaire, I hope it becomes part of their line!

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

What would I put in place of the donut? I do want it to sit relatively flush with the wedding band but I'm having a hard time visualizing what it would look like without the donut. It is supposed to be the Elegance shank so I hope that the band is comfort fit, I will definitely double check that. Good eye, thanks!

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

No Donut, would be like this (your head would be resting on the bottom of the shank like the wires on in this picture)

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

I think that's is a beautiful setting. I would vote to remove the doughnut too. Not only can she wear a flush wedding band but the ring will look sleeker and more fluid.

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

I love the head that you chose, but I think that I would prefer that the shank be more rounded than squared off, I think that it gives it a more elegant, fluid, sexy look. I also agree with Gyspy about the donut, I love love love a donut and would keep IF your fiance isn't hoping to wear a flush fit wedder.

Ditto...and have the shank more rounded so it looks more fluid.

Re: Blew the budget and pulled the trigger! - settings input

Thanks for all your suggestions! After talking with Denise, she assured me that the ring will be comfort fit, as all BGD non-custom shanks are made. I love the look of all the BGD rings I've seen posted on here so I decided not to mess with a good thing (I've done enough modifying already). Also, Brian said that the donut is there to make the ring structurally sound and while he could remove it, he advised me against it and said that since the band is tapered, there will be a space from the top regardless unless I get a custom made "flush fit" ring, which can be easily made to suit this ring with the donut.

Thanks for everything, now the wait really begins!

Brian is the expert. I think it's going to be stunning! I can't wait to see it!
