hi everyone,

i wasn''t sure whether i should post this question in freke''s thread or start a new one ... but i hope starting a new one is ok.

did anyone/ is anyone planning to wear black shoes underneath their wedding gown?

i''m having a difficult time finding a pair of shoes that i like (color doesn''t really matter) in super high heels (~ 5 inches).
i came across these jimmy choos but have no idea how black shoes are with ivory wedding dresses.

let me know what you think.

I've wondered this myself calidaisy. I think that whatever shoes make you happy (or that you can walk in, or that are comfortable) should be the ones you wear. Finding shoes that are about 5 inches tall is going to be super difficult-unless you're looking for stripper shoes-which I'm guessing you're not

.

If you'd like I can poke around a little bit, but I'm thinking that there will be very slim pickings.

In other news though, I think those shoes are FAB!!! Especially with the silvery gold platform and heel.

And don't you have a tiny shoe size too?

But the most important question is-do you love them?

thanks freke!

i never saw those shoes in real life so i don''t know whether i love them or not.

i already have a 4/12 inch white satin shoes (i need dye) as a back-up ... but was wondering about black shoes as i saw some magazine pictures of women wearing short wedding dresses with black shoes.

anyway, thanks for the offer to look around.
i wear size 6 and i just want to find something that i can wear other than just at my wedding.

btw, another shoes i really liked was this one i saw on ebay recently.

You might try nina shoes. they have a few that are 4 3/4 which are a little more weddingy.

Would you really wear five inches ever again anyway? I realize they have platforms under the ball of the foot, but I still don''t think my ankle would bend that far... and I used to take ballet!

oh, and to answer the question - I think black shoes would be fine as long as your dress is long enough. I don''t think black could work as the "fun sassy different than white" wedding shoes, but the only time I''ve seen a bride''s shoes are when she pruposely shows them. So wear whatever makes your dress look good and you feel good!

Those Chanel shoes are KILLER!

I wore 4.5 inch platforms for my wedding. They were Valentino in a pale pink. I posted them on here... I''ll see if I can find the thread...

Here they are. My mom bought them for me as a BRIBE not to wear the shoes I had picked out solely for their height.

And frankly? I wear them all the time now and I always get lots of compliments too. If you get tasteful ones, you'll get lots more use out of them and it's worth spending the dough. OK, so it was my mom's dough, but still.

I don''t think the black shoes are visible. Make sure you will be comfy. Those shoes seem awfully high to me.

Alright. I''ve been slacking... (and making more cupcakes-anyone want to come over and eat some?)

Anyway, down to business.

silver sandal 4inch, 1 inch platform

red satin 4 inches 1/2 platform

different metallics 4 inch, 3/4 inch platform

Brown/bronze sandals 4 inches, 3/4 platform

blue/black 4.25 inches, .75 platform

Aqua or gold sandal 4 inch w/ 1 inch platform

I have these in green-and they are surprisingly comfy 4 inches, .5 platform

Black and blue sandal 4 inches, don''t know platform height

Navy strappy 4.25 inches, 1 inch platform

Multi metallic 4 inches, .5 platform

I think that you should stick to around 4 inches tops unless you''re really comfortable in heels. I wear them quite a bit, but I''ve still been known to trip wearing them (24th birthday, 4 inch stilettos, fell down a flight of stairs, ''nuff said) and with something over that-especially something with a huge platform, it runs the risk of looking like it belongs in a strip club.

So the questions becomes, how much height do you really need?

I saw a bride with a black sash on her ivory gown wearing black shoes once. And even though intellectually it matched it just looked wrong. They were really nice high heeled satin d''orsay pumps too. And you could only see them peaking out occasionally, her dress was hemmed right, but her feet just looked like they belonged to someone wearing a different gown. I''d avoid the black. Unless maybe it''s black and ivory... majoriy ivory.

thanks for all your responses and the links to so-o many websites! you guys are just awesome!

so, i''ll look for a different color than black--i was just worried about the color (black and ivory) clashing ... but it''s true that the colors won''t clash and the shoes rarely shows ... BUT that it just looks not right to wear black shoes under a wedding dress.

however, i''d like to continue looking in the 5" range with sturdy heels.
i wear high heels all the time so the height of the heel is really no big deal as long as they are well made/ good shoes.

also, i''m trying to wear the tallest heel possible and make my dress poufier and see if i can get away with not altering the length of my dress (since that''s costing me an arm and a leg

Ah, ok. I was wondering if that was the reason behind it. Whats your budget? If I see anything I''ll go ahead and post whatever I find. I think you''ll have to go pretty high end though, to avoid the stripper shoe look. And chunkier heels as well.

(I really do like the black ones though, but Gypsy is right about it with Ivory...)

thanks freke!
my budget ideally is under $500.
however, i do agree that i need to go high end to find the kind of heels i want ... so, the absolute maximum i''d say would be $1000.

(and may FI NEVER EVER find this post in ... million years!

thanks brazen!
