Yesterday we asked Martin Haske (aka Adamasgem) to comment on the nature of the black inclusions in the diamonds.

Martin response is published in the journal: Black Inclusions in Diamonds.

I too love the idea of other gemstones in my rock.

So those knuckleheads who shelled out for IFs only get one gem for their money?

Very cool!

If black diamonds are highly included with dark appearing materials that may not be diamond, could it be that some black diamonds are really other gem materials with lots of diamond inclusions?

Thanks Marty.

On a diamond buying trip in India I saw a nice garnet in a diamond.
It is not that unusual - I thought - "will i buy it?"
"Nah - too complicated - more stuff to sit around etc"
I told young Tony who was with me - he said "my wife (geologist) would love that". Trouble was I had thrown it back into the parcel of more than 1,000 stones.
He spent 1/2 the day louping the stones again, but never found it
