There is a nice article today on JCK Online outlining why black Friday will, once again, be the busiest shopping day of the year. Many mall/department stores, I have noticed, offer enticing jewelry deals to get people to come in.

How many of you have taken advantage of the 'huge sales' on things like 1 c.t.w diamond hoops for $99 on black Friday, knowing full well exactly what you are getting when you buy them? Or, do most of you avoid the crazy sales and focus on quality jewelry at prices you would expect?

I avoid the loss leader stuff (super cheap TVs, jewelry, etc) but keep an eye out for things I've been wanting that are on sale. I do my Christmas shopping throughout the year which makes it less stressful but it's a little painful to see a couple of things I've purchased on discount now. o_Oo_Oo_O

The only place I bought anything was Neimans.

So they have 50.00 off 200 dollars, Plus using ebates right now is 14% cash back. On what I got thats pretty significant.

Oh yeah Bought oatmeal at vitacost. Cheaper through them (usually twice the cost at the grocery store) 30% off plus 6% cash back. No tax, free shipping (I buy in bulk.)

This is the time of year I love ebates (plus their birthday cashback)

I actually took something back to a store today, so technically I made money instead of spent it. Kind of. Not really, but whatever. :lol-2:

I have purchased nothing today.

I bought another pair of trousers, duplicates of a pair I already own, because they were 20percent off and I had been planning to buy them anyway. lol

Similarly, I bought my usual health supplements in bulk because there were £1 cheaper each than when on the usual 'buy one, get another for a penny' offer!

I did look at a 75" QLED UHD TV... but at two and a half grand, I will continue to look at it in the shop... LoL

In terms of bling... I don't want to buy any old crap just because it's cheap! I'm patiently biding my time till I have some money and the MMD market has finally settled down and (hopefully...) become great value :)

I got a top and a necklace online. I actually bought the top already, but it went on sale so I'm sending the one at full price back for a refund. Good thing they have free return shipping!

cute top!

I rarely shop Black Friday--typically the offerings aren't things I need or would give someone. I did a ton of online shopping last week/weekend, pretty much finished my christmas shopping list. I bought a t-shirt online for myself today--it was 40% off/no minimum free shipping/available online only--and a Pendleton blanket because they were on sale (gift.) Nearly pulled the trigger on a bunch of plush cozy blankets for gifts but am holding out for a better sale closer to christmas. If they're still available, great, if not, no worries. They are "these would make nice gifts" things, not "people truly need these" items.

I ordered a "big ticket" toy for my daughter when the Target toy "catalog" came out earlier this month--it contained a coupon for 25% off a single item and the thing she wanted was close to $100, so that came in handy and I had it shipped to the store for free pickup because I was going there anyway.

Probably won't set foot in another store (including grocery or liquor stores) til 2019. I can order absolutely anything and everything online here and have it within 2 days or less. Groceries I clicklist and pick up same day--the attendant loads everything into your car for you. If there is an occasion for wine/liquor I use an app called drizly and can have it delivered within an hour. Amazon Prime is sometimes 1 day even though they guarantee 2 day delivery. What do I need with Black Friday "deals" when everything comes to me quickly, cheaply, and easily?

The only jewelry item I bought today was a costume necklace at Ann Taylor. I've been looking at it for some time but 50% off and free shipping got me. Macy's was offering some hideous looking diamond earrings for 29.99 with 200 purchase. I wouldn't buy promotion grade diamonds so I just ordered cashmere sweaters that I wanted and finished my shopping for the day.

You know, if you call them, they'll usually adjust the price for you so you don't have to make them pay shipping twice more, it's easier all around. ;)2

And to answer the question, I upgraded my phone today at 50% off, bought my husband expensive work boots at 20% off, and that's it. Like most PSers, I prefer quality over quantity, so I am not tempted by crappy jewelry at any time of year.

That would make more sense but I just assumed they don’t do price adjustments. Oh well.

I got an iphone $400 off from verizon, a toy for my nephew from Target, an amazon echo dot from Amazon, and a Christmas tree from BJs-- all on Thursday online. I've always enjoyed the experience of shopping on Black Friday, but there's no point when it's easier to get them online.

Bought a second instant pot, and booked a Jan. Trip to Corpus Christi with the kids who can come.

I have bought a suit for my son’s prom, some posh chocs and cashmere socks in the sale. I am tempted by the 11% off some BGD earrings and a couple of the Blue Nile sale items (pave band for £400 ish, seems very good).

I cracked. I bought a scarf that was 50% off, so $13. If it wasn't so cold this year, I wouldn't have bought it. I'm kind of on a scarf kick this year and have bought several. Some are for warmer weather.

Rejoice, PSers! There’s a 20% off deal on these $70 artisanal brooms with walnut handles:

My husband and I saw these in a shop window and our minds were blown. We debated getting one to hang like art, then yelling at anyone foolish enough to try sweeping the floors with it.

This because PS has ruined me for buying any jewelry that is not top-notchiest for whatever budget I set.

The double-edged sword of knowledge! This is where we sometimes look around a crowded room, notice the jewelry on display and think “Ignorance is bliss” :)

Wow! Perhaps I can open an Etsy shop full of “artisanal used sneakers” or “artisanal bottles of tap water” ?

actually I think the brooms are really pretty!
I ended up participating in black Friday because I asked my oldest what she wants for xmas, and she wanted a replacement for her phone (has a cracked screen and can glitch when she does stuff). So, bought a phone for $200 that has $100 in phone credit, so more like $100. So kind of a boring present, but she also got a car in the past month that me and Dad paid for, so I don't think she will complain.

They really are! Then I remember what they’re used for, and how much they cost at the hardware store, and I’m all “Nah!”

DH bought a season of Supernatural from Best Buy because every year it's $10 for the latest one.

I bought an 18K engraved band off EBay. That was it for us!

I bought this air/assault bike. It burns up to 80 calories per minute.
After this year, I need it.

I bought 7 tunic sweaters (different colors so they will either all fit or not) and 4 more pairs of leggings online all discounted for Black Friday though I bought them all yesterday (Saturday) as the discount was ongoing. As well as purchasing locally yesterday at our local small businesses to support Small Business Saturday. Also bought lots of supplements that were on 15% sale.

My dh bought some electronic parts (but no special discount) to continue his projects many in the works as we speak.

@House Cat nice bike...happy working out.:appl:

I always wait until dinner time to go out on Black Friday. You miss the door busters but still get the 40-50% off sales and in-store specials. Some of the stores are a mess but you don't have to deal with the crazy crowds. It's my one and only trip to the malls during the holidays.

I always stop at Eddie Bauer's - like that I can get gift boxes and individual gift receipts plus everyone can use a jacket, sweater or warm shirt. In addition to my usual shopping, I sort of went overboard buying packable down jackets at Eddie Bauer. They had an in-store special where all sizes (men and women's) and colors were $39.99.
