Is wearing a black cocktail dress with colored heels acceptable when attending a spring wedding? It is a late afternoon-early evening wedding.

Yes, it''s perfectly fine.

I think it depends completely on your social circle. Black dresses are NOT acceptable at weddings in my circle, but the concensus on PS seems to be that they are acceptable. So, I think it all depends--I''d ask some friends of yours who will also be attending.

It''s A-OK in my book!

The wedding is not within my circle of friends. It is my FI''s friend. So I am not sure....

I guess I will try and find another dress! No harm in buying two new dresses!;)

Now you''re talking! (I just had a little dress shopping excursion myself, there are tons of gorgeous dresses out right now.)

I''ve done it before. I never felt out of place.

I wore something similar to a wedding last month and it was fine. There were plenty of girls wearing black.

where i''m from, black is reserved for six pm and later (seriously! why six? i have NOOOOOO clue), the exception being a formal affair starting earlier than six but will last beyond six.

i say wear a colored cardigan over the dress--if others aren''t wearing black, you''re safe, and if they are, strip.

REALLY good idea, doodle!

I think this late afternoon early evening wedding would be fine to wear a dress to. Everyone does it nowadays. Where I''m at anyways.
