Hi Ladies,

We have only been married a month now and my DH''s birthday is in just a few days from now. We aren''t in a position to be spending money, and he already used his gift from me (a new outfit, which he wanted to wear for a recent event). But, I still want to do something and/or get him something on his actual birthday. Sooo... any creative/money saving ideas????

So far all I have come up with is cooking him a "special" dinner and cake, which he probably would be quite happy with. Just wanted to see if you all had any different suggestions.

Thanks!

Ok so this idea isnt technically a gift, but I know my DH loved it..Our first anniversary together (as bf and gf, not married) we were beyond broke, so like you I made a fancy dinner and a cake, but I also cut out 100 hearts out of paper and wrote something I loved about him on each one, and stuck them up all over the house. He loved it! It was very cheap, but he still talks about it to this day. Maybe something like that? Or how about some rose petals leading to your bedroom and *ahem* a naked wifey?

Dhs always love that!

I think a naked wife is always appreciated! You could make his birthday meal in a super sexy only-for-his-eyes outfit, I bet he''d love that.

My DH turns 40 on the 15th, so I''ve been filching away bills whenever I could to save up enough to cover the bicycle he wants to buy. I''m going to fold up the bills and make an origami bicycle out of them to give to him on his birthday. I know it''s technically "our" money, but he has no idea that I''ve been saving this cash so it will be a huge surprise to him. (I can''t buy him the actual bike because he''s so particular that I don''t want to get it wrong.)

I like the hearts idea! If you don''t want to cut out and tape the 100 hearts, they have heart shaped post-its that would make your task a bit easier.

One of my favorite things to do is date night (not necessarily for birthdays) and when we were dating I never had as much disposable income as he did so I would scour the internet and local magazines for Cheap or FREE date ideas and some of the suggestions were quite fun.

I would take him on dates to the local museums and around our downtown area on nights when items were very discounted or even free. We still do that today, but now he knows that my awesome date ideas were not as pricey as he once thought they were.

I still do that when we travel...just google "free things to do in ...." and you will be amazed.

You could take him out somewhere really special and then bring him back home to your especially cooked meal and he will be delighted...

the hearts idea is cute - and naked supper is always welcome! :)

You could make him a cheque book or voucher book of stuff for him to ''cash in'' when he wants.. breakfast in bed, foot massage, bikini car wash, it is really only limited to your imagination! I did one for FI for valentines day when we first met and he thought it was great!!! He gave me one for this past valentines day just before we were married as we promised not to spend any money on each other. Mine is a blank cheque book so i can make my own up

Thanks for all your ideas everyone! I''m still not sure exactly what I''ll do. At the very least, I''m pretty sure I''ll do a nice dinner and birthday cake. I really like the sticky hearts idea so maybe I''ll do something similiar to that too. Thanks for the suggestions.
