Hi, I am considering wearing a birdcage veil and I wanted to get some opinions. Here are some pictures of me in the dress, how do you think a birdcage veil would go with it? I''m also thinking about wearing a black sash instead of the one that comes with the dress, here is a link to a girl wearing something similar with a birdcage veil, look at the first girl (i don''t think I would want one with feathers though:

Also, for those who have worn a veil like this, do you just take it off during the ceremony? Or is there a cute way to just pin it back?

Thanks for your thoughts!!! Here is the dress:

You can''t see it very well, but the dress is Dora by Melissa Sweet and it has this adorable swiss dot pattern...which I think is kinda vintage-y and so I thought maybe the birdcage would go....

Karasue,
I recently just got a birdcage veil to go with my dress and I was completely worried that it wouldn''t "go" together. I went to the bridal store where I ordered my dress and asked to try on the dress and veil together and they both look "smashing" together! I would suggest doing the same :) I adore the vintage-feel that you get from birdcage veils and truly, I really think a birdcage veil would go with your dress....Also look for clips, whether jeweled or feathers to accent the veil a bit more (if you are going for that look)

Hope my two-cents helps a bit :)

I am completely SWOONING over your dress!! I love it!!

I think a birdcage would look great with your dress! I think it would look perfect paired with feathers, a flower or even an old brooch. I ordered a chapel-length veil for my dress, then ordered a birdcage to wear instead (or maybe just to the reception), I planned to pair mine with an old brooch.

I ordered a shorter birdcage (14", I think?) veil because I didn''t want it to cover my mouth during the ceremony. The extra material on the veil can easily be pinned in place, but I think that depends on whether you get a birdcage with a comb in the back (like mine) or with two combs on either side (like the one you showed). I had a tough time keeping my material down, though my stylist was able to easily pin it down.

As it turns out, I''ve decided not to wear the birdcage, but here''s a bad pic of mine just so you can see one with a comb n the back.

I LOVE birdcage veils and am planning on wearing one. And I think it would go perfectly with that scrumptious dress. Go for it!

I MUST HAVE your wedding dress. I love it!!!!!!!

LOVE YOUR DRESS. Think it would be great with a birdcage veil ... yanno .... they make ''em out of DOT-PATTERN netting too! I had a little pouf thing I wore in my wedding and the piece had little dots on it ... Hmmmm .... where did I get it?? Looks like they''ve moved to here

Ooooh! Great link, Deco.

I LOVE your dress too!

OK, maybe I am too traditional. I like the sash as is, and I like traditional veils. But I don''t think a birdcage would look bad at all.

I can answer some of those questions! I have a birdcage too, although mine is nose length. Dorene at Unveiled Bridal Designs (http://www.unveiledbridaldesigns.com/index.html) makes killer birdcages, with customized length, pouf, and comb (she has a crazy number of decoration options and she makes everyone by hand for you). And her prices are a LOT better than most of the bridal stores I saw.

Mine is the same as the one below, but my comb has a much smaller number of feathers on it. My hair will be up, and after the ceremony the birdcage can be pinned back to make a kind of "pouf" that looks just like a hair decoration. It doesn't stick up too much at all, and looks quite nice with my low vintagey bun hair.

I don't know when your wedding is, but mine is a month from today (!!!!) and I will make sure to take pics of the back of my head for you if you'd like...

This is what mine looks like:

I guess I''m in the minority because I dont think a birdcage goes with your dress at all. I think a long, floor length plain one tiered veil would look stunning though! I just dont get a vintage vibe from your dress, but it IS gorgeous!

Hmmm good catch about the sash ... I forgot that issue. If the dress is WHITE WHITE WHITE (like BLUE white) then I think black could look snazzy. (Don''t I sound like Maude? Or a Golden Girl!) But if its the least bit CREAM ... probs stick with the same color sash. Weeelllll ... there are some combos of cream & black that look classy ... aigh ... too hard for brain ...

The Dora is really a beautiful dress; and you look fab in it! But, it''s not a casual dress -- so pick your accessories with that in mind. It has a floaty, ethereal quality that says ROMANCE to me rather than SASSY. And I agree with Deco, keep the sash simple and same color, especially if you are going with an attention-getting headpiece like a birdcage.

Let me say again, you look wonderful in that dress! It just floats around you!

Your dress is so beautiful - absolutely love it!

I think your gown looks soft, flowy and romantic which for me I would pick a traditional veil... something simple. I tend to think of birdcage veils being worn with something more structured. However, I feel that brides should do whatever reflects their personality so if you prefer a birdcage I say go with it! I think you can go with a black sash since it''s fairly simple and understated. I added a black velvet sash with my ivory silk satin dress and I loved how it looked. However, I wouldn''t do both the black sash and the birdcage veil... might be a bit too much going on with the fabric of your dress.

I''ve looked at this dress at least 20 times today (loving it) and I keep trying to picture it with a birdcage and a traditional veil. At first I thought the birdcage would be perfect, but I don''t know anymore. The thing is, your dress looks light and airy and I don''t think a traditional veil would quite fit, either. The lack of train means youd probably do something shorter. Maybe a flyaway?

For some reason this is really feeling like a "no veil" dress to me. I mean, it''s gorgeous on its own--I love how the skirt looks flowy, but not in a crinoline, poofy way. I''m not making any sense, haha. Anyway, a gorgeous silk magnolia or fresh flowers seems to fit this gorgeous, somewhat casual dress better than a chic birdcage veil or a more traditional tulle veil.

Thanks everyone!!! I really appreciate all your opinions, and you make good points. I haven''t seen anyone in a birdcage with this dress, and I will definitely try on first. But WOW some of those websites have some amazing veils!! I LOVE the idea of a brooch with it and I would definitely not want it to cover my mouth for lipstick and kissing reasons.

Neatfreak, what you are describing is exactly what I was thinking, I definitely want to see pics after your wedding!!!

I''m really not a traditional veil kind of girl, I didn''t mind the veil I tried on with the dress...she called it just a "cage" veil, it was more of a loop of tulle rather than a length of tulle attached at one end and the other end was free. But, that veil was $500!!!! Has anyone else ever seen a veil like that? I liked the short length of it too, just past my shoulders but not past the top of the back of the dress. I think it''s either cage veil or no veil....although I LOVE the pics of girls in veils where the wind picks up the veil...haha but I just don''t think I could do a traditional long veil.

Also, I see your points about the black sash with the birdcage, might be overkill. I was actually just thinking that maybe I could change into the black sash just for the reception, for more of an evening look. The ceremony is outside next to a river, reception is indoors.

Haha, the "wind in the veil" thing is the ONLY reason I went with a longer veil, so I know exactly what you mean.

The veil you are describing sounds fun, I think a "cage" veil is similar to a flyaway veil? I''m not sure, but I think I know what you''re talking about. Honestly, I would push to have that veil thrown in for free. I''m not sure where you are purchasing your MS dress, but two good friends of mine easily negotiated having expensive veils given to them with the purchase of their MS dress. One here at Priscilla''s of Boston and the other was out in La Jolla, CA. I negotiated having a veil thrown in, too. I figured even if I didn''t wear it, it couldn''t hurt, right? When you''re spending that much on a dress, they tend to give the veil to you pretty easily.

If you can do that, then at least you''ll have an option. If you end up buying a second veil, it''s not that big of a deal.

I actually like the veil you have on in the picture...I''m sure you could get something similar for less than $500! Your dress is just so gorgeous...but to me it''s more ''50s retro while when I think of birdcages, I think of ''30s or ''40s. Does the store have any for you to try on with it?

I''m actually going to buy the dress from an online store, so it''s doubtful that they would throw in a veil. The pictures were taken at Priscilla of Boston, and she called the veil a "cage" veil. I thought that a cage veil was the same as a birdcage veil, but I am clearly not up on my veil terminology! But, I was so giddy about the dress I didn''t even bother to ask her to let me try on the birdcage.

Anyway, I have tried googling "cage veil" a few times and nothing comes up that is similar to the one I tried on. The only one I could find that has the same shape is here:
http://www.jljohnsonbridals.com/click%20here%20to%20see%20entire%20collection/V1135_1.jpg
And they have no description of how long it is and no picture of it on a person.

Have any of you guys seen this kind of veil on other websites?

Btw how do you make links on here?

What online store are you getting your dress from?
Seriously....I''m in love. I need the dress. lol. Or at least to try it on. haha

You create links by clicking the things that look like chain links in the tool bar. Or, you can just copy and paste a link like you''ve been doing and we can figure it out.

You girls are making me feel so much better about my dress choice!! I have only had 2 friends see me in it, and they loved it but I didn''t get much feedback from FSIL or FMIL....and usually they are very excited with me about stuff like this. Well, I have only found one website that carries Melissa Sweet, it is www.fairytalevisions.com . I have spoken to the lady there several times, and they will accept payment through paypal, although they charge a fee for it. I haven''t been able to find a lot of brides who have used them, mostly only girls in the UK and Australia. I know it''s a bit of a leap of faith, but they don''t have any complaints against them from the BBB and they are also a seller on Ebay and have very good feedback.

You should be able to try on the dress at any salon that carries Melissa Sweet, I think it is a popular dress right now. Those pictures are in the Priscilla of Boston in NYC.
