Biggest Fashion Regret?

80''s Fashion sucked, but the music rocked! I loved Depeche Mode, and the Petshop Boys

I used to wear a turquoise sweater over a hot pink button down shirt. With earrings to match. I also wanted to be just like Alyssa Milano so I got my hair permed like hers. It didn''t hold though.

One of my friends used to wear sweater dresses, and I think some were off the shoulder. It was very risque for a middle schooler.

ETA: Did you cuff your jeans and then roll them up a bit? I can''t remember what it was called but I think it was called something. I used to do that too.
pegging!

Jelly shoes! Ugh, what was I thinking?!
MCHammer pants - yeah I thought I was cool
and the list goes on and on...

And who could EVER forget these?!?! : LEG WARMERS!!!! ( Darn, I cannot attach pictures

That''s right ~ pegging! I can still remember the routine of folding in the denim flap super tight against my calf and then rolling up 3 times. That''s a skill I don''t get to use everyday, lol.

Anybody remember the Coed Naked shirts? Or the Big Dogs shirts? How ''bout hair scrunchies? Tucking your pants into your socks? Those pants that had pockets that you could take out and tie around your waist for and ''alternate'' look (sort of like Hammer pants)....I had a leggings/skirt ensemble that were attached to each other, a denim-overall''s dress, and the absolute WORSE...

Those huge, circus tent jeans from the late 90''s! Anyone remember J''nco''s? (or Jancos, however it was spelled. EEEEEK!!!!)

OMG I just remembered the most hideous fashion craze to ever hit our streets. It's not my personal regret, because I would never have been caught dead in such an abomination, but I do regret being subjected to the sight, and feel sorry for those who fell victim to.........

...........skirtpants. A pair of pants, with a matching skirt attached. I'm not talking about a nice skirt over leggings, or a long shirt over pants. I'm talking about two items of clothing, about which up until then there was not a doubt in anyone's mind that they were intended to be worn seperately. A perfectly good pair of pants. With a perfectly good skirt worn over it.

For the love of god, why????

Uh oh! HAHAHA.

Does it count if the pants are skinny jeans and the skirt is a short sweater dress? I''m so guilty of that--just last week, in fact.

In my defense, I do think it depends on the length of the skirt and the bunchiness of the pants. But stepping back a bit, I can definitely see how this might be a fashion disaster that I live to regret.

And ACTUALLY, speaking of skinny jeans, I think they might be something that people regret a lot. I wear them, but I''m completely aware that they are not as flattering as normal jeans -- I think that unless a person is built like a model, skinny jeans make us look pigeon toed and pear-shaped. Dunno why I go along with it, actually.

I detest skinny jeans - anything that can make me look at an emaciated fashion model and go.."hmm, she looks kind of wide" is an abomination upon the world! :)

Spandex.

I''ve never heard of that one. Hmmm. It doesn''t sound like I missed much.

I forgot about Co-Ed Naked T-shirts! They were REALLY popular when I was in college, and there was practically a co-ed naked shirt everywhere you looked at my campus.

Well, you learn something new every day. I just asked my husband if he remembered Co-ed Naked t-shirts and he said that a family friend of his used to work for the company. Apparently, it was started in my home state.

it's ok lightningbug, you're in the clear, that look is totally different to what I'm complaining about, and perfectly acceptable. Maybe (one can only hope) it was a fashion disaster that was contained to my part of the world. What I mean in my case is; take a perfectly good skirt. One you would wear to work. And, for some godforsaken reason, stick it over a pair of trousers. It was about 10 years ago. It got to the stage where most shops stocked pants that had matching skirts attached to them. Skirtpants. What the hell were they thinking.

We called them "tightrolling" out here in Chicago. And I TOTALLY did it, too. I remember when a friend''s older brother warned us that tightrolling was NOT cool in high school and we totally didn''t believe him. he was right--all of a sudden, nobody rolled their jeans up anymore.

Ack! I''d forgotten that trend! I was totally guilty of it in junior high. I promptly discovered goth at 14, however, and I''d like to pretend my personal fashion was a lot less disastrous from then on... I avoided the Huge Jeans of the ''90s because of that, and the flannel. Since I still dress that way

just with fewer studded collars and bondage bracelets than I wore in HS. (I would like to add that I *never* wore black lipstick- even in HS I knew that was really, really wrong on just about anybody.)

HAHAHA! We can always count on Kenny for the funny pictures.

there are 2 things that still make me cringe that i wore during the early 1990s...those huge multi colored knit sweaters...I paid as much as $500 for some of those sweaters and today they are so ugly that i cant be seen washing my car with one!The other is a shoe style Ralph Laren made popular for about 5 minutes in the early 90s...the shoe that looked like a cross between a driving moc and a bedroom slipper...worn with bright colored cotton socks(turquiose, pink, lime or orange)and aciid washed jeans that were really tight around the ankle!Yep ...those shoes were real chick magnets!

Is anyone willing to post photos of themselves in these stylish trends?

Actually, I liked the '80s and early '90s business attire. But I was sewing and tailoring all of my own clothes from Vogue, Butterick, and the occasional New Look or Burda pattern. I liked a lot of the formal wear back then, too. If you looked in the right places, for adult clothing, there was a return to elegance and a nod to the '30s and '40s Hollywood. I like shoulder pads. Most women actually look better with a slight shoulder pad. I have broad shoulders and had more of a triangle build anyway, so big shoulders worked for me, lol.

The entire '60s / '70s warmover that they are doing now has really left me cold. I have no desire to wear those ugly clothes. And lots of people wearing them should not be. In the '80s, women were aerobicized and tight enough to carry off revealing and clingy clothes. Now we have a bunch of flabby fatties jiggling, and bulging, and popping out of the even skimpier and tighter clothes they have today. Whose idea was it to dress women like streetwalkers?

Overalls, bucket hats with huge flowers on them, and how could I forget.....

BODYSUITS!!!!

Hideous leotards with snap crotches!

I''m laughing at all the memories this thread is bringing up.

I''m blushing as I type, but I once wore spandex leopard pants to a Rob Stewart concert....
