Depends on the carat size an cut and on if I wanted a white diamond, or if I wanted a warmer one. I love warmer stones. But if I wanted a white diamond:
In an ideal round under or around 2.5 carats... I or J would be fine with me, depending on the setting... if it was REALLY open on the sides then probably H-I. But not likely. Anything eyeclean. Again, if open on the sides I would either want it set to hid the inclusions visible from the side, but since clarity is graded face up... it's more a stone by stone thing than a clarity grade thing. I really can't imagine owning a round larger than that. If the diamond is smaller than 2 carats and bezel set... K is fine. I'm hoping to buy a couple of K's for earrings soon, incidentally.
In fancy's it depends. Anything with sharp tips that show color (pear, marquise, princess) readily... I'd probably prefer to stick with H and higher. In a step cut... again, if I wanted it to be white... H and higher. On an oval or an cushion, I think I is just fine if the stone is very well cut. Old cuts, again H-I.
Clarity... it's a stone by stone thing again. As long as it's eyeclean... things don't bother me much. I would avoid any diamond with an open feather, or anything that is a substantial risk to safety, but beyond that as long as I can't see it, I don't care about it.
My own engagement ring is a F VS1 though. And a step cut. It was purchased before PS though. If I were buying a diamond now? SIZE over color by far.
