Hi,

I'm getting a platinum scatter band and I have been looking at White Flash as well as Brian Gavin. Assuming price is the same, which would you pick? I don't know enough about BGD's signature melees vs WF's ACA diamonds, so I'm looking for opinions.

Thanks in advance.

The diamonds would be equivalent. I'd suggest looking through the Show Me the Bling forum to see if there are opinions on workmanship. Both usually get pretty good reviews.

Ditto on the diamonds.

I have had rings made by both - WF made my custom Ering, BGD made my MIL's custom RHR last year. I would say the workmanship on those rings is equivalent to a T - and I am nitpicky enough to note if otherwise.

BGD had some problems with custom work a couple of months ago - directions not being followed, pieces being made incorrectly. I don't know if they've taken steps to rectify the situation. I have personal reasons for choosing WF.

I've used BGD three times, and two of those for bezels. I've been very happy. I believe that if you talk directly to Lesley or Brian you will get everything you want and more.

I personally won't use WF but that's more of an ethics issue... as in I don't care for theirs.

*Edit - never mind. Not going there.

...And that's precisely the way I feel about BGD.

I think you will find that people have their favorite vendors on PS :) If you search PS many people have had good experiences with both vendors.

ETA I am not discounting Gypsy's or Yssie's experiences.

No, you are right slg... some of us have had great experiences with vendors others not to great. To be objective is a gift.

well...I have not had a bad experience with either vendor. I can imagine I would feel differently if I was in your or Yssie's shoes.

I found WF to be much more responsive to e-mails, so I'd pick them.

had experiences with both vendors and both vendors was willing to take my $$$s...

diamonds - nearly identical... brian gavin designed both cuts as he was a founder of whiteflash
custom work - I might give a lean toward BGD but both do exquisite work
price - WF is definitely less expensive.

I really wanted to work with BGD but the bottom line made my decision. If prices were the same I would have gone with BGD, but they were not.

My choice is BGD--I have used them for 4 different projects within the past year and would highly recommend them! Brian and Lesley have been very responsive to my emails/phone calls, especially when I have changed my mind on certain things. I also happen to like their designs much better than WF.

I have worked with WF and BGD. I was one of many who followed Brian and Lesley when they moved on from WF and started their new business. I am a picky customer and found Lesley to be great at handholding. I think we all find vendors who we are comfortable with and stick with them.

As for the melee in the scattered diamond band... as Cehra said, Brian Gavin was the person who designed the ACA diamond so both will be the same high quality.

I had a scatter band made for me by BGD and it is beautiful. I had them double the amount of diamonds and use a brushed finish on mine. The quality is great...I have no complaints at all. It is 3mm and has 20 diamonds instead of the usual 10 so it's .30cttw and has a brushed/satin finish.

Whiteflash made my 5 stone band several years ago, and the quality is great with them as well.

I love BGD diamonds + Denise!!

I've also purchased earrings from WF - no complaints.

Both vendors have quality products. If all things are equal, price inclusive, coin toss! :naughty:

My impression is that you can't go wrong with either one - both companies are high quality.

I personally went with BGD (even though they were a little more expensive for what I wanted compared to WF) because they had a setting I wanted that WF obviously could not reproduce without copying. I knew the setting was important to her so that made it worth while to spend a little more on the diamond to get the setting without having to go through two vendors.

WF may have more inventory (just a guess, I don't know for sure but it seems that way) and I find their website easier to use, but those shouldn't affect your decision if you like what you find with either company. Good luck! :)

WF do have a wider inventory and that certainly helps when you want to upgrade... they also give you there whole selection when you plug in the parameters, BGD on the other hands limits your choices eg. say you do a search for signature diamonds... between 1 and 2 cts any Clarity, Any colors, u'll only ever get 10 results. I find this a little annoying but its nothing to put u off, just gota play with the settings :P

Price wise... WF didn't have the setting I was looking for but they quoted me a figure for a custom made... was a bit steep compared to BG, in the end BG had the setting I wanted and also a vry nice diamond to go with it, n that was that :) vry happy with the service but Tracy at WF has always been vry helpful as well
