Argh, I'm so mad! One of my best friends, J, is in army AIT right now and got to come home for just a couple of days to see his wife and two babies, so they wanted to get together with me and DH for dinner. We get home from dinner and a little while later, we get a text saying their house had been broken into, and their tv, computers, and his wedding ring (which he left at home because it needs to be resized from all the weight he lost at basic) among other things had been taken, and their back door was kicked in to the point where the entire door and frame will have to be replaced. The robbers even dug through their fridge and left it open, so almost all their groceries are spoiled. I'm so mad for them that the tiny bit of time he got to come home and see them was spoiled by this, that he's going to be worried sick and she's going to be terrified being at home alone with two children under the age of four, and that the cops said there's very little chance they'll be able to catch the guys. These guys broke in while it was still broad daylight!!! :angryfire: Thanks for letting me vent for a minute. On the plus side, they and their children are okay, the thieves at least left the kids' room alone, and their cat wasn't hurt, although pretty freaked out. The cat was actually how they knew something was wrong--he was sitting on the front porch when they got home, and he's not allowed outside ever, so J immediately knew someone must have come in through the back door. They were insured, too, so hopefully they'll be able to get new electronics and whatnot, but I know they were both ticked about the wedding band.

So sorry to hear this but it's good they were not in the house at the time.

Oh no! I'm SO glad they weren't there and noone got hurt, and I can see why your friend's wife wouldn't want to be alone with two children there

I hope they find them! :nono:

Glad to hear that no one was hurt.
Something similar just happened here Friday
and an arrest was made Saturday.
The police need to check the neighbors.
It doesn't sound like just a random act.

Oh that's terrible! Thank goodness they're alright. I can't imagine trying to feel safe after something like that has happened, especially with children. I hope they find them.

Doodle, that's awful! I'm so glad they weren't home when it happened, and that their kitty is OK! I can't even imagine how someone could do something like that . . . some people are such wastes of oxygen. :nono:

That is sad and infuriating!!! Some people are just pieces of *expletive*. It does sound really fishy... Is your friend on facebook? Did they let anyone know that they were going out for the night?

Does sound a bit fishy - what are the chances that someone just happened by and broke down the front door all while they were out for dinner in the early evening? Sounds like someone knew a bit about their schedule or was watching their house. Doesn't sound like the optimum time frame for someone to chance breaking in and getting away!

At any rate, I'm sorry to hear this. Ruins his trip home plus probably makes it doubly difficult for him to have to leave his family again. I hope the police are able to solve this crime for their peace of mind.

It's terrible that they lost material possessions, but even worse that they will both be uncomfortable/uneasy when he leaves again. Hopefully that is the end of their troubles and all goes well while he's away. I agree the circumstances sound suspicious.

Thats terrible, I have had my house broken into, its not pretty, they didnt steal anything from me because we had an alarm system and a German Sheppard...they took off and got nothing, but you feel so violated and so damn mad, it will take a long time for them to get over that feeling...we had our house up for sale at the time and me moved shortly there after.

:angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:

This is terrible. This is one of my biggest fears!!

Oh no! That is horrible! I'm glad that they are ok though! And I hope the insurance helps them out! Is there any way for them to get a security system installed before he goes back?

I'm so sorry for them! My home was robbed in the middle of the day a bit over a year ago. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. If a mess was left (our home was completely ransacked), ask if you can help them clean. Bringing over some groceries or meals would be nice, too. See if you can help his wife around the house even after he leaves again. It is true that more than likely, they won't cach the people. Tell them to take their time identifying stolen items, and to take pictures of everything. We got reimbursed for paint since they had put scratches in our walls, and new doors for the bedrooms since they had damaged those when removing our stuff. Last thing we did was get a security system. We were assurred by the cops that these types of robberies don't happen twice, but I was so uncomfortable in the home any time I was alone for months.

Oh, and if your grocery stores sell gift cards and you get rewards for spending a certain amount, tell them to do that! We bought a bunch of best buy gift cards before replacing all our electronics and got like, $1.00 off all gallons of gas for a month!

Thanks so much everyone for the kind thoughts. I definitely believe in karma, so just having a few well wishes sent their way is great, in my opinion. =) It sounded suspicious to me, too, at first, but the cops said they thought these guys were pros. They came in the back door, left anything too difficult to unhook, basically grabbed whatever would fit in their pockets plus what they could carry out in one trip, and went right back out the back door. The police said it looked like they were probably in and out in under two minutes as it was an extremely efficient ransack job. I don't think it helps that my friend drives a nice new car that's parked out front, so it sticks out in their neighborhood as most of the people there have older vehicles. They also live right behind a college campus, so it'd be easy for someone to stake out their place from the college parking lot without rousing any suspicion. I feel terrible for them, and I wish there was more DH and I could do, but we're leaving in about an hour for a trip that we absolutely can't cancel for his work, and we won't be back for two weeks, so there just isn't much we could help them with. We did go over there last night and take them some groceries, help out a little, and try to cheer them up, and we told J if his wife and kids wanted to stay at our place while we're gone if she'd feel safer since we have a neighbor that constantly keeps an eye on things, she was more than welcome to. J's just trying to stick it out until he gets stationed somewhere and can move the whole family on base, but I know it's a ton of pressure for him worrying about their safety! Yikes, this got lengthy! Sorry for such a long post. Again, I really appreciate all the kindness, support, and suggestions. Thank you all for listening!

I am so sorry to hear that. It makes you feel so violated! Like someone knows all your secrets and is was watching you undress or someting. I know that a dog doesnt make up for a man, but I really think she should get one. Get a puppy with the biggest bark. The reason I say puppy is that grown dogs dont take as well to small children as a puppy who doesnt know any different.

As far as an alarm system goes, she most definently needs one. She could even get one that just sirens until she can do the ADT thing. Even though those alarms arent hooked to anything like the ADT type ones the loud noise calls attention and a robber would walk in the door the thing would go off and the robber will walk right back out.

Best wishes to them. It will take some time for them to feel comfortable again, but they will. Please advise a a dog with a mean bark.

Sorry for your friends! But they are not hurt, and it is the main thing.

These days, there are many robberie and many people turn semi-pros because they are in need of money for drugs. In my office park, a few offices have been robbed. People, too, were told that the robbers would never be found, because there a simply too many robberies by addicts.

A story told me by my friend. His friend was having a sale and advertised on the Craigslist. A couple came in to look at the furniture, and when they heard a dog barking, one of them told the other one, "He has a dog", and then the other one said, "No, it is his neighbor's dog". His house was broken into in a few days, in the middle of the day when he was at work, and he is absolutely positive it was this couple's job. They live in the vicinity but the police said they did not have enough clues to investigate.

Very sad to hear but good thing everyone is safe.
