Hey all, I am having the ASET images ordered to see what kind of light return data they will possess. I like the first one best for its shape as I prefer the more rectangular cushions over the square ones. Also with the measurements of this one, will it appear larger than it really is? symmetry is only "good" though, should I discount it because of that?

I also like this one.

Any help is appreciated,

Budget?

absolute ceiling is $3500, but i'd like to spend a little less if possible.

I would drop your search perimeters down to SI1. Who cares if you can see it with a 10x loupe as long as you can't see it with the naked eye.

Do you have 1 or both of these on hold because they say they are not available.

But I don't care for either of them so I'm hoping another search will help you. You can also try ERD as I think they have nice cushions.

is there a particular reason you dont care for these two or just in general? My only thought on SI1 was that the top facet in a cushion was pretty large so if there were any visable inclusions would they show pretty heavy in a cushion?

I think you mean the table of the diamond, which is the large flat area on top.

First I'm not a diamond expert- I can only tell you what I found during my search for my antique cushion and what I like about cushions and look for.

For me the .87ct has a large table which negatively impacts dispersion and fire in the crown facets. That plus it has a Thick-Very thick girdle would cross it off the list for me. Also in general I'm not in love with the facet pattern. I can't put my finger on it but I just don't like it. To me it looks like the center might be a smidge dark????

The .89ct is cut shallow at 60.60% which I'm guessing is why it faces up much larger then the .87ct. While the numbers say it has a large table at 63% this actually doesnt bother me as I don't mind the faceting on this one as much, but I'm still not in love with it. Also not in love with the fact that both polish and symmetry is only good. With cushions I think symmetry is really important or it just looks off in RL. This is one of those hard things to judge by a photo. Typically I try to stay above very good for both polish and symmetry if possible.

Once again just my OP. If I had to pick between the two I would probably do the .89ct. I would still drop down to SI1. Most SI1's are eye clean (and very accepted on this board), so just make sure you ask the vendor if it is 100% eye clean and they will give you a very honest answer. I think this will give you more options to look at and really pick out you/ your GF likes best.

Goodluck!

EDIT- for horrible grammar!

Yes, the first one does sort of look like an oval but still a little more "squared off" than oval. Thats really why I like the stone.

WHat are these different facet patterns called. Like when describing to JA I dont want crushed ice is it Modified cushion brilliant, cushion brilliant, antique or what? I am working hand in hand with them and am very comfortable with them. I still dont know whether to deal with James Allen offline or go local and go to Solomon, Union DIamond, or CUmberland Diamond exchange.

I certainly prefer the more elongated cushions that the square ones...

ALso is an SI1 really going to be eye clean on a cushion? I could save some doe there and step up in color...

Thanks for all your help as always guys, Ill be sure to post the ASETS once they are delivered. BTW what kind of discount do we receive for price scope?

I dont know why, but I am soooo intriqued by the first "more oval" cushion even since I picked it out the other day... hmmmm, what to do here. I need to pick a few others.

Some modified are more crushed ice than others. Some cushion brilliants could be considered crushed ice, or have some elements of the crushed ice look.

If the shape and look to that stone is what actually appealed to you have you thought about purchasing a good oval. I well cut oval will have better light return, more fire and generally be a larger facing stone (more visual size for your money) than either of those two cushions.
