Definitely no on #1. It is too deep and the stone faces up smaller than a 1 ct. stone should. May as well buy a .90 and save money!

Goodness, #2 is worse! Even smaller! Neither of these is a good stone.

Stick with GIA Excellent cut only! A 1 ct. stone should face up at a minimum of 6.4mm and some have diameters of 6.5mm. Don't settle for less than excellent cut because that is the most important factor related to the beauty of the stone! You may have to go below a carat to get an excellent cut stone, but I honestly wouldn't want either of those.

Tell Quest that you want a GIA Excellent cut stone only, and ask for copies of the GIA reports and come back and post new stones here. We also need to know crown and pavilion angles on additional stones. But you'd be better off with almost any GIA Excellent cut stones over these.

I don't understand, There both GIA and Ideal cut on these scale is better then an Excellent cut.

There scale Ideal - Premium- very good- good

Can someone go on these site for me and find the right diamond. Looking to spend around 5k on a 1ct

Thanks guys

There is no such thing as a GIA Ideal. The top of the GIA grading scale is Excellent. Search only for GIA Ex/Ex/Ex and plug the numbers into the HCA and reject any that score about 2.0.

You are going to have to go low in color and clarity to get an excellent cut 1 ct. stone. GIA doesn't grade diamonds as ideal, so that was just a label Quest chose to put on that diamond. If they had attached the GIA report, we could have told more about the cut. But the fact is, it was too small in diameter and not a good choice anyway. You must have the lab reports to sort through diamonds. I only have a minute so I will see if I see anything that might work for you and then hopefully others will help.

Okay, here is one example. The only thing that will get you close to $5k at 1 ct. is a J SI1. Here is one from James Allen at $5150 with pricescope and wire discounts:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1438639.asp

another:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI1-Very%20Good-Cut-Round-Diamond-1437758.asp ($5260) (this one says excellent cut on the lab report)

Vendors with lab reports and pictures of the stones are essential as far as I am concerned when buying over the internet.

If you want to go higher in color or clarity, you will need to go to the .90 range. With SI1 stones, you have to ask them if the stone is eyeclean.

Thanks for the info, I just gave a call to Quest and they said both diamonds are GIA Excellent but I guess I'm going to see if they have any bigger in Dimensions
