When do u suggest is a better time to buy ring... BEFORE or AFTER Valentine Day? Or does it make no difference. I am not in a hurry to buy... this will be my first ring and want to wait for the right time for better bargain

Thanks!

It makes no difference.

The only difference may be a slight chance of less selection because others are looking to buy. That said, when I purchased my pendant, it was about a month before Christmas (this was a few years back) and I thought it''d be more difficult to find a good diamond due to more jewelry purchases aroudn that time then, however, I didn''t see a difference. You never know! If you''re not in a hurry, then shop around a bit.

It would only make a difference if you bought the diamond 10 years ago before V-day.

LOL nice answer IceExplorer.

Holy crap I'm 10 years too late.

A wholesaler was telling me the other day, Valentine's Day makes no difference especially if you're buying stones. Any surge in demand is by men impulse buying rings that aren't very good for the big day, whilst others are buying a cheapie ring to propose with (with plans to get a proper one post acceptance).

When I first saw this chart I thought WOW!

My second thought was: If I bought a diamond in 1970 - the resale value I''d get if I were to sell (for the approximate 20%-30% of retail price) would only be breaking even about right now!!! What a racket!

Kind of makes me feel even more silly waiting 4 years to propose.

Ice explorer - what are the specs on that hypothetical diamond?
