I have an 18kt white gold 1930s three stone (early round brilliants) ring that I purchased from Isadora's in Seattle. I'm thinking about selling it, but am unsure of the best way to do that. Do many antique stores purchase from the general public? I asked The Three Graces awhile ago, but they weren't accepting new consignments. I've also inquired with JBEG but though their price was too low, once they took the consignment fee.

Have you spoken with the store where you bought it? They successfully sold it once, perhaps they would like to do it again.

Setting prices is always the tricky part. Unfortunately, you can ask whatever you want but asking a lot is not the same as getting it. I know nothing at all about the piece but what's your basis for comparison when you say that the JBEG folks are too low? Yes, most antique stores purchase and/or consign directly from the public but the same question applies there. How are you deciding where the price 'should' be?

Thanks, Neil, for your response. To answer your question about my basis of comparison for JBEG's offer- I thought what they offered at face value was a reasonable price, but once they took the commission of $300, it just seemed too low. I believe I overpaid for the ring to begin with, but have no expectations that I'll get even close to what I paid; I think I could probably sell it on my own for more than the final JBEG price.
