Best way to see LOTS of stones in person?

I am in the Bay Area and have been to a handful of jewelers in the area. It seems like none of them have a broad section of diamonds in-house available to view.

My question, is how do you see a good selection of stones?

Is there a way that you can see, in person, a selection of stones in your requirements?

How does this usually work. Can you ask a jeweler to bring in a handful of stones within your specifications and then you can select one?

I think first you should just look around the diamonds the stores carry to get an idea of what shape, range of size, color and clarity diamond you want. set a budget and work from there.
