Hello,

I''m about to buy a .46ct Regent for my gf''s engagement (if she says yes!) ring, and I have a couple questions regarding a setting for it. I''m leaning toward an X-Prong setting. When reading about Regents, however, it''s specifically mentioned that the girdle and pavilion should be as open as possible. So I''m wondering if the small crossbar present between the prongs on an X-Prong will have any significant effect on the stone''s performance. Since at least a couple people in this forum have set a Regent in an X-Prong type setting, I assume the crossbar''s effect is negligible. Is this correct, or will a Tiffany-style setting be better for a Regent?

My other question pertains to platinum types for settings. I have had trouble finding info online about what mixes are used by certain designers. LE (do they have a website?) appears to use 90/10 with Iridium, which is nice and hard. I like the designs by Vatche, but they appear to use 95/5 with Iridium, which is pretty soft. My girlfriend is a little prone to bumping into things, and I don''t want her to be able to scratch the ring too easily. Can anyone point me to some simple, elegant designs (X-prong, tiffany, cathedral, etc.) that use harder platinum alloys like LE does?

Thank you so much for any information!! I''m so excited about getting the ring finalized and proposing!

i would really advise u to go for the setting by le instead of the dvatche x prong cos of the size of the diamond you are buying. this fine line 4-prong by LE is actually a setting specific to whiteflash and would be fantastic for the regent you have in mind and is kinda unique as compared to the tiffany type settings. I say nay for the x-prong cos the shank is rather wide and may dawrf the diamond, whereas the fine line would allow the diamond to stand out and be showcased.

you can actually see a picture of the fine line setting here from user sxn675.

good luck and enjoy your diamond buying process. post pictures when the ring is ready!

For an alternative to the dvatche xprong, the w-prong setting is new from whiteflash and can be veiwed from their website here or a real-life one here.
