Hi Pricescopers! I have been lurking around this site for about a week, and first let me say that you have given me a wealth of knowledge I didn''t even know existed, so thank you so much for all the info. My boyfriend and I are looking for a ring and I need some pointers, because we are on a very limited budget ($2500 with the setting to be exact). Good news is, I am very happy with a white gold tiffany four prong setting that gives all the attention to the center stone. I would like to get as close to .75 carats as possible, eyeclean of course, in a round hearts and arrows. I was looking at a G range in color, but looking on the forums it seems like in a diamond that small I can go to an H color without the difference being obvious. I keep going back and forth with options, and I think I need some guidence. I looked at an I color ring at the mall and it looked yellow, but then looked at an H from Hearts on Fire and couldn''t see the difference. No local stores have H&A other than HoF so I can''t tell if the cut will make a huge difference in making the diamond seem whiter. Can you tell me what you would recommend?

Welcome!

Cut does indeed seem to make a big difference in how well a diamond faces up colourwise ( or lack of!) So you are certainly on the right track! A beautiful cut, H or I or even J colour and perhaps a clean SI clarity can get you a stunning diamond. I will take a look to see what is out there that might suit you, is your budget flexible? You can get an idea of the type of pricing these diamonds go for, using the Pricescope your Diamond tool at the top of the page.

Here is a contender! http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-20780.htm

I was able to find this one, you would need to check carefully with James Allen that it is eyeclean to your desired standards.

I hope these help and give you an idea of what to look for.

Some of these are getting close to your max budget, but I don't know if there is any flexibility involved, plus the setting you mention won't cost the earth!

Thank you Lorelei! I did do a search and picked my favorites. I was just a little unsure of how an I diamond would look in real life as they they tend to look the same on the websites. I am just a tiny bit flexible on our budget, but not by much I''m afraid. Of course, looking around the gallary at everyone''s 2 carat bling, I guess I''m still in the kiddie pool with my budget.

What do you think of these?? The last one is a Solasfera, which I have never seen before. It is quite a bit smaller though....

Here are a couple stones. But there are a number of trusted vendors and sometimes it''s best to call them and have them check what''s in their inventory. Color is a personal preference but the better the cut is the less you will notice the color. Plus what you probably saw at a B&M was a stone graded by one of the grading companies that isn''t as strict as GIA or AGS.

When you find something you like plug the depth, table, crown and pavilion numbers into the Cut Advisor (under tools) and you''ll get a score. Less than 2 is the aim. Happy hunting.

Thanks Koursie!

SGL, you have picked some super diamonds! As to the Solasfera, I don''t know much about them, but unless you particularly wanted one, I would stick to the H&A. As to an I colour, many here have I and J colour and are delighted with them. If you ordered an I and by rare chance weren''t delighted, the PS vendors have an excellent return policy!

Those are all fabulous too!!! Personally, I would skip the Solasfera...I find cuts like these busy in person and I just prefer the cut of a regular round brilliant. You also aren''t getting much size for your budget with that stone.

I like the WF F SI2 Lorelei posted! If that one is eye clean, I'd go for that one. .74 from WF is my second pick.

Ditto!

Good Morning!! I just wanted to thank everyone that gave me pointers and helped me make a decision. You guys rock!! (hah!)
I decided to go with Whiteflash as a company, based on all the great reviews I have seen here. Once I called, the women I spoke to (Katie) steered me to an H color, as sort of a compromise as I was willing to go down to an I but my boyfriend seemed uncomfortable with anything less than a G. A little smaller carat wise, but she said the spread was very good so it would seem a little larger. And is totally eye clean.
So here is the one we chose. A starter ring, lol, because now I seem to be obsessed with sparklies!!

As soon as I am engaged I will try and post some pictures of it. Again, I can''t thank you guys enough for the advice.

Please come back and post photos for us! What will you set it in?

Very pretty stone.

Thank you! I''m so excited to see it in real life. It''s going in a classic four prong tiffany in white gold. I like a very simple setting, but may ugrade later on. The wedding band will either be plain or a round channel set, very thin though.
I can''t wait to show you guys...
